Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Project Engineer to join our team supporting the DOE's Y-12 National Security Complex! This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Project Engineering support and coordination for commercial, infrastructure, production modernization, and production stockpile projects.

  • Support the planning, design, procurement, and implementation of new machine tools, production equipment, and infrastructure upgrades.

  • Provide technical integration, leadership, and direction to multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting high-profile plant initiatives.

  • Plan and direct engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, from initial scope development through implementation.

  • Develop and maintain detailed project design scopes, engineering budgets, schedules, and technical requirements.

  • Apply applicable ASME NQA-1 Nuclear Quality Assurance requirements to engineering activities performed within nuclear facilities.

  • Coordinate engineering activities with Production, Maintenance, Project Management, Construction, Startup, and Project Controls organizations.

  • Integrate and coordinate internal and external technical resources to meet project objectives and schedules.

  • Monitor engineering progress against approved project schedules, budgets, and milestones and implement corrective actions when necessary.

  • Identify and resolve technical, design, schedule, and coordination issues that could impact project execution.

  • Provide engineering leadership for complex, high-priority, and time-sensitive plant initiatives.

  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet applicable technical, quality, safety, and project requirements.

Requirements

  • Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in technical or engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution and 10+ years of relevant engineering/project engineering experience.

  • Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.

  • Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.

  • Demonstrated experience with project planning, design, implementation, and technical coordination.

  • Experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.

  • Ability to develop and manage project scopes, engineering budgets, schedules, and technical requirements.

  • Experience supporting equipment/machine tool installations, infrastructure upgrades, or production modernization projects.

  • Knowledge of ASME NQA-1 Nuclear Quality Assurance requirements and their application in nuclear facilities.

  • Experience coordinating with Production, Maintenance, Construction, Startup, Project Management, and Project Controls organizations.

  • Ability to monitor engineering progress, schedules, and milestones and implement corrective actions when required.

  • Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively coordinate internal and external technical resources.

Desired Skills

  • Active or very recently active DOE “Q” Clearance or DoD “Top Secret” Clearance, desired.

  • Experience working in nuclear, DOE, manufacturing, or highly regulated industrial environments preferred.

The NNSA's Y-12 National Security Complex, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is the nation’s only source of enriched uranium nuclear weapon components and provides enriched uranium for the U.S. Navy as well as excels in materials science, precision manufacturing, and stores enriched uranium. Y-12 supports efforts to reduce nuclear proliferation risk and performs work for other government agencies (energy.gov).
