Job description

Contract Opportunity | 12-24 Month Assignment | Competitive Hourly Rate

We're seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to support a portfolio of capital improvement projects at a large industrial manufacturing facility. This individual will serve as the mechanical engineering lead throughout the project lifecycle, from concept development and front-end planning through commissioning and startup.

This role is ideal for engineers with strong experience in rotating equipment, capital projects, and brownfield facility environments.

What You'll Do

  • Lead mechanical engineering activities for multiple capital projects from concept through startup and closeout
  • Develop project scopes, engineering specifications, equipment datasheets, and design criteria
  • Support Front-End Loading (FEL) studies, project estimates, schedules, and execution plans
  • Manage engineering deliverables and ensure alignment with project objectives
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, construction, and engineering teams
  • Support procurement efforts including equipment selection, technical bid evaluations, and vendor management
  • Review and approve engineering documentation and project deliverables
  • Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews, constructability reviews, and risk assessments
  • Ensure compliance with Management of Change (MOC) processes and applicable industry standards
  • Provide field engineering support during installation, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and performance testing

Experience With

  • Rotating equipment including pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, and blowers
  • Mechanical equipment specifications and vendor drawing reviews
  • PFDs and P&IDs
  • Equipment selection and technical evaluations
  • Inspection and testing programs
  • Brownfield capital projects
  • Commissioning and startup activities
  • Management of Change (MOC) processes

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience within oil & gas, LNG, refining, petrochemical, chemical processing, or other heavy industrial environments
  • Experience supporting capital projects from design through startup
  • Strong knowledge of rotating equipment systems
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams
  • Strong technical documentation, communication, and reporting skills

  • 4x10 schedule
  • Additional hours may be required during turnarounds, outages, and critical project milestones
  • TWIC card required or ability to obtain
