Title
Summer Science Academy Student Instructor
Position Description
The Center for the Advancement of STEM Education (CASE) is looking for qualified individuals to work as Student Instructors in our Summer Science Academy. CASE Summer Science Academy Student Instructors will be immersed in the laboratory experience, supporting and assisting Lead Instructors in preparing and teaching hands-on programs in the STEM disciplines to middle and high school student participants.
Summer Science Academy programs include biotechnology and cybersecurity; individuals will be hired and assigned to the program best aligned with their background and skills.
Duties may include:
  • assist in set-up and/or break-down of the lab
  • support lectures
    • assist students with class and laboratory activities
    • assist with giving direction to students while in lab and in the field
  • work closely with participants as they learn to think and write like scientists while completing a collaborative guided research project
  • demonstrate a commitment to maintaining order
  • facilitate group discussions based upon the activities presented in the class or lab
  • assist with and be responsible for following emergency protocols
  • be responsible for safely escorting students to lunch or various activities on campus
  • assist with student pick-up and drop-off and be responsible for following established pick-up and drop-off protocols.

This is a short-term position.
You must be available for full days all of the following dates:

  • June 29, 2026 and June 30, 2026 (for Training)
  • July 6-10, 2026 and July 13-17, 2026 (Program Dates)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with middle and high school student or interest in working with this audience
  • Attention to detail
  • Reliable
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • CPR, AED, and EpiPen trained (training will be provided by CASE).
  • Basic proficiency with common computer software, including Microsoft Office and Google Classroom, or similar programs.

CityLab Position
  • Chemical preparation skills
  • Experience with gel electrophoresis, spectrophotometer, micropipetting, and the scientific method

Physical Demands
Must be able to lift up to 20lbs
Must be willing to work outside
