Job description

Supply Chain Operations Intern

Northwood is a modern space infrastructure company bringing the benefits of space to the masses through advanced communications technology. We are building a global network of phased array ground stations that enable real-time, reliable communication for satellite missions such as national security, global connectivity, and disaster response. With a vertically integrated approach, Northwood designs, builds, and rapidly deploys scalable systems that power the next generation of space missions. If you like solving complex challenges and seeing your work deployed around the world with real impact, Northwood is the place to do it.

We are seeking a Supply Chain Operations Intern to join our team for the summer in 2027. You will play a critical role in ensuring our satellite ground station manufacturing and deployment run smoothly and efficiently. This is a highly technical, hands-on role where you'll work with complex supply chain systems, track precision components, and optimize processes to support cutting-edge technology.

You will dive into data-driven operations, analyzing inventory, supplier performance, and logistics metrics to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement. You'll help implement automated tracking, develop dashboards, and support planning initiatives that directly influence production schedules and deployment timelines. This role provides a rare opportunity to see how operational strategy, technical requirements, and high-stakes manufacturing intersect in the fast-paced space technology sector.

Responsibilities:

  • Support procurement, sourcing, and order tracking for high-tech components critical to ground station production.
  • Monitor inventory, analyze trends, and help optimize stock to prevent production delays.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to ensure materials meet technical specifications and quality standards.
  • Analyze supplier performance, lead times, and logistics data to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist in building dashboards, reports, and automated tracking systems to provide real-time visibility across the supply chain.
  • Help implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and mitigate operational risks.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable working with data to inform operational decisions.
  • Proficiency with Excel; experience with dashboards or data visualization tools is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and operational teams.
  • Passion for space technology, manufacturing, and operational excellence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in the aerospace, satellite, telecommunications, or defense industries
  • Experience with ERP Systems (NetSuite/Oracle/SAP)
  • Proficient in SQL or advanced competency in MS Excel
  • Startup or fast-paced environment experience a plus
