What Is Salesforce?

Salesforce is a platform for customer relationship management (CRM). It features a variety of software and application tools for managing marketing, customer service, sales, customer data, and online engagement. Salesforce is a cloud-based platform, so companies can apply the applications to their web properties and social media accounts without having to install all facets of a CRM platform on their server. Companies that use Salesforce include telecommunications, entertainment, finance, healthcare, tech, and retail companies. Government agencies, nonprofits, and manufacturing companies also use the platform.

Is Salesforce a high paying job?

Salesforce professionals, including administrators, developers, and consultants, tend to earn higher-than-average salaries due to the specialized skills and certifications required. Entry-level roles may start with moderate pay, but experienced Salesforce experts often earn well above the industry average, especially with certifications like Salesforce Certified Advanced Administrator or Developer. Salary levels can vary based on location, experience, and job responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Salesforce Administrator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Salesforce Administrator, you need a strong grasp of CRM concepts, data management, workflow automation, and a Salesforce Administrator certification (such as Salesforce Certified Administrator). Familiarity with Salesforce platforms, data reporting tools, and process builder are typically required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills help you effectively support users and collaborate with stakeholders. These skills ensure efficient management of the Salesforce environment, leading to improved business processes and user satisfaction.

They configure, customize, and manage Salesforce solutions to meet the specific needs of a business, ensuring data integrity, process efficiency, and user adoption. Their expertise helps organizations leverage Salesforce’s tools to improve customer relationships and drive business growth.

Is Salesforce still a good career?

About Salesforce

Salesforce is the #1 AI CRM, where humans with agents drive customer success together. Here, ambition meets action. Tech meets trust. And innovation isn't a buzzword - it's a way of life. The world of work as we know it is changing and we're looking for Trailblazers who are passionate about bettering business and the world through AI, driving innovation, and keeping Salesforce's core values at the heart of it all.

Ready to level-up your career at the company leading workforce transformation in the agentic era? You're in the right place! Agentforce is the future of AI, and you are the future of Salesforce.

DET Sales Engineering is a world-class digital engineering organization responsible for designing, building, and scaling applications and intelligent agents that power Salesforce's Sales & Post Sales business processes.

You'll be joining the broader DET Salesforce on Salesforce team, a strategic pillar within Salesforce's Digital Enterprise Technology organization and a key part of Salesforce's "Customer Zero" initiative. Specifically, you'll be part of the Salesforce on Salesforce Technology group, where we develop and deploy enterprise-scale solutions that power the company's global sales operations, customer success processes, and revenue operations - while serving as the primary validation ground for emerging Salesforce technologies.

This role offers the unique opportunity to build cutting-edge solutions using Agentforce, AI agents, and next-generation platform capabilities, directly impacting thousands of internal users and influencing product development across Sales & Partner Operations, Customer Success, Revenue Operations, and major M&A integrations. You'll be at the forefront of Salesforce's internal digital transformation, working on high-visibility initiatives that demonstrate the full potential of the Salesforce platform to both internal stakeholders and the broader customer ecosystem.

The Experience

We are seeking a Lead Member of Technical Staff (LMTS) to drive end-to-end engineering ownership across a portfolio of complex, business-critical initiatives.

This role goes beyond implementation-you will shape architecture, influence engineering standards, mentor teams, and drive adoption of modern (AI-assisted) development practices.

You will partner closely with Architects, Product Managers, and global engineering teams to build scalable, high-performance Salesforce applications that deliver long-term business value.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

1. Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Lead end-to-end technical design and delivery of complex Salesforce solutions

  • Translate architectural vision into scalable, maintainable implementations

  • Drive design decisions balancing performance, governor limits, security, and extensibility

  • Define and evolve enterprise engineering patterns (Apex, LWC, integration frameworks)

2. Engineering Excellence & Governance

  • Establish and enforce coding standards, review practices, and quality benchmarks

  • Provide hands-on code reviews and actively guide developers across teams

  • Drive test automation, CI/CD maturity, and release discipline

  • Proactively manage technical debt, dependencies, and system health

3. Platform Strategy & Innovation

  • Lead adoption of Agentforce, Data Cloud, and AI-assisted development tools

  • Evaluate new technologies via POCs, build vs. buy decisions, and technical benchmarking

  • Introduce agentic development workflows to improve engineering velocity

4. Data & Performance Engineering

  • Design and govern scalable data models for large data volumes (LDV)

  • Optimize SOQL, indexing strategies, and transaction performance

  • Ensure high standards of data integrity, security, and compliance

5. Delivery Ownership & Execution

  • Own technical scoping, estimation, and breakdown of complex initiatives

  • Identify risks, dependencies, and trade-offs early in the lifecycle

  • Drive execution across multiple concurrent projects in a global delivery model

6. Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner with Product, Architecture, and Business teams to shape solutions

  • Translate business requirements into clear technical strategies and trade-offs

  • Influence decisions across teams and drive alignment on engineering direction

7. Mentorship & Talent Development

  • Mentor and grow engineers across skill levels

  • Act as a technical anchor and multiplier for the team

  • Contribute to hiring and raising the engineering bar

You're Our Person If...

  • A related technical degree required

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering

  • Strong expertise in Salesforce platform: Apex, LWC, Lightning, Flows, Visualforce

  • Solid experience with Java and object-oriented design principles

  • Deep understanding of Sales Cloud and end-to-end CRM lifecycle

  • Experience with system integrations (REST/SOAP APIs, event-driven patterns)

  • Proficiency with modern development practices (Git, CI/CD, Agile)

  • Experience with Salesforce DX, scratch orgs, and release management processes

Even Better If...

  • Experience with Agentforce, Data Cloud, and AI-driven application development

  • Familiarity with agentic development environments (e.g., Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code)

  • Strong background in Large Data Volume (LDV) architecture and performance tuning

  • Experience with test automation frameworks and quality engineering practices

  • Multiple Salesforce certifications (PD I/II, Application/System Architect)

  • Experience in enterprise-scale SaaS environments

Leadership Expectations

  • Strong technical judgment and ability to drive decisions under ambiguity

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Ability to operate effectively across multiple teams and priorities

  • Proven track record of delivering scalable, durable systems

Why This Role

This is a high-impact role where you will:

  • Shape the technical direction of critical business systems

  • Drive next-generation AI-enabled development practices

  • Influence engineering culture, quality, and velocity at scale
