Sales Hunter information

What is a sales hunter?

A sales hunter focuses on the process of finding new business prospects and new markets. Their job duties include identifying new potential markets for selling products, developing new profit and revenue streams, and developing lists of potential prospects. The qualifications for a career as a sales hunter include a high school diploma, although some employers may prefer a post-secondary degree.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales hunter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales Hunter, you need strong prospecting abilities, persuasive communication skills, and a track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets, often supported by a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce and proficiency with sales automation tools are typically required. Tenacity, resilience, and an entrepreneurial mindset are crucial soft skills for excelling in this high-pressure, results-driven role. These competencies are essential for consistently identifying new opportunities, building relationships, and driving business growth.

What are some common challenges faced by sales hunters and how can they overcome them?

Sales Hunters often face the challenge of consistently identifying and engaging new leads in highly competitive markets. Rejection rates can be high, requiring resilience and adaptability. To overcome these challenges, successful Sales Hunters focus on research, strategic networking, and leveraging CRM tools to track prospects efficiently. Collaborating closely with marketing and account management teams also helps align outreach strategies and convert leads into long-term clients.

Job description

Outside Sales Representative - New Territory (Richmond, VA or Winchester, VA)
Location: Remote - based in Richmond, VA or Winchester, VA
Compensation: $80,000-$120,000 base salary for first two years (DOE) + commission, transitioning to uncapped commission-only thereafter. Most reps earn $200K OTE, with top performers earning up to $1M+.
Benefits: Full benefits package, car allowance, and gas card, 401k+ match, PTO
About the Opportunity
A booming, privately-owned packaging company is looking for a driven outside sales hunter to build out a brand-new territory. This is a true greenfield opportunity - you won't be inheriting an existing book of business. Instead, you'll have the chance to build your own client base and reap the long-term financial rewards of an uncapped commission structure once established.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Proactively generate new business from the ground up
  • Service and grow existing accounts
  • Function as a true outside sales "hunter" - not an account manager sitting on a static book
  • Prospect independently - no leads are provided by the company
  • Cold call, network, and get in front of manufacturers directly
  • Build relationships from scratch with new customers
  • Win new accounts rather than take over pre-established relationships
  • Identify and pursue opportunities the company hasn't tapped into before
  • Google Workspace

Requirements
  • Experience: 3-5+ years of sales experience in packaging or industrial sales
  • Background: Open to candidates from titles such as Outside Sales Rep, Account Manager, Territory Business Manager, or Business Development Manager
  • Education: No degree or certification required
  • Industry: Packaging or industrial required
