What is a Sales Development Software?

Sales Development Software is a digital tool designed to help sales teams identify, engage, and nurture potential customers (leads) more efficiently. It automates tasks such as lead generation, outreach, follow-up, and tracking interactions, enabling sales representatives to focus on building relationships and closing deals. These platforms often integrate with CRM systems, provide analytics, and help streamline the sales process to increase productivity and conversion rates.

What is the difference between Sales Development Software vs Sales Development Representatives?

FeatureSales Development SoftwareSales Development Representatives
Primary RoleTools to automate and manage outreach, lead tracking, and prospectingHuman professionals responsible for qualifying leads and setting appointments
CredentialsSoftware expertise, CRM knowledgeSales training, communication skills
Work EnvironmentSoftware platforms, CRM systemsOffice or remote sales teams
Usage in IndustryUsed by sales teams to support outreach effortsDirectly engage with prospects to generate sales opportunities

Sales Development Software automates and streamlines outreach activities, while Sales Development Representatives are the professionals executing those outreach strategies. Both are essential in the sales process but serve different functions: one provides tools, the other performs outreach.

Is being a SDR a good career path?

A Sales Development Representative (SDR) role can be a good entry point into sales careers, offering opportunities to develop communication, prospecting, and CRM skills. It often provides a clear pathway to higher sales positions and can lead to increased earning potential with experience and performance. However, it typically involves high activity levels and targets, so success depends on individual motivation and resilience.

How does a Sales Development Software role typically interact with sales and marketing teams?

Professionals in Sales Development Software roles often serve as a vital link between the sales and marketing teams. They collaborate closely with marketing to understand campaign goals and messaging, while also working with sales to qualify leads and ensure smooth handoffs. Success in this role often requires clear communication, sharing insights on lead quality, and providing feedback on prospect engagement. This collaborative approach helps optimize the sales funnel and drives more effective outreach strategies.

Can you make $500,000 a year in sales?

Sales development roles typically focus on generating leads and qualifying prospects, with compensation often based on commissions and performance. Earning $500,000 annually in sales is possible for top-performing sales professionals in high-value industries or with significant experience and a strong client network, but it is not common for entry-level or average roles. Success depends on factors such as sales skills, product value, and commission structures.

How much do software salespeople make?

Software salespeople typically earn a base salary plus commissions, with total compensation ranging from $50,000 to over $150,000 annually depending on experience, location, and sales performance. Entry-level roles may start lower, while experienced professionals with strong sales skills and product knowledge can earn significantly more.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sales Development Representative in Software, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales Development Representative (SDR) in software, you need strong communication skills, a solid understanding of sales processes, and ideally a background in business or technology. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) platforms like Salesforce, sales enablement tools, and sometimes relevant sales certifications are commonly required. Outstanding SDRs excel at active listening, resilience, and time management to build rapport and efficiently qualify leads. These skills and tools are vital for generating high-quality leads, supporting the sales pipeline, and driving revenue growth in a competitive software market.

Is SDR the hardest sales job?

Sales Development Representatives (SDRs) often face high rejection rates and require strong communication, persistence, and resilience. While it can be challenging due to the need to generate leads and qualify prospects consistently, whether it is the hardest sales job varies by individual and organization, as other roles like account executives or enterprise sales can also be demanding.

About Loan Vision
Loan Vision is a PE-backed, high-growth technology company focused on providing loan-level
accounting software for the mortgage banking industry. Built on the Microsoft Dynamics platform and
hosted in Microsoft Azure, Loan Vision helps more than 270 customers reduce risk, streamline
manual processes, lower operating expense, and gain faster insight into profitability. We combine
purpose-built technology with the implementation approach and ongoing support customers need to
maximize their use of our software.
Position Summary
The Sales Development Representative is responsible for creating qualified new-to-new pipeline by
turning targeted outreach and marketing engagement into high-quality sales conversations. The role
focuses primarily on outbound prospecting, webinar follow-up, marketing campaigns, and older
Salesforce leads. You will research target accounts, engage CFOs, Controllers, and other senior
finance leaders at independent mortgage banks, credit unions, and banks, conduct initial
qualification, and schedule well-prepared meetings for Account Executives.
As your product knowledge and confidence grow, you will support Account Executives during
presentations, deliver selected portions of presentations, and eventually lead appropriate product
presentations independently. This role is designed to provide a development path toward an Account
Executive opportunity for strong performers who demonstrate consistent results, readiness, and
alignment with business needs.
Core Responsibilities
• Build and execute disciplined, multi-channel outbound prospecting using phone, email,
LinkedIn, and other approved sales tools.
• Target CFOs, Controllers, and other senior finance leaders at independent mortgage banks,
credit unions, and banks.
• Follow up quickly and thoughtfully with webinar attendees, marketing campaign engagement,
and older Salesforce leads.
• Research accounts and contacts to personalize outreach around relevant accounting,
financial management, profitability, and operational challenges.
• Conduct initial discovery and qualification to confirm fit, business need, key stakeholders,
timing, and a meaningful next step.
• Schedule high-quality meetings for Account Executives, provide complete context, and
ensure a clean handoff and timely follow-up.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely Salesforce records, including contact information,
lead source and campaign attribution, discovery notes, next steps, and opportunity progress.
• Collaborate with Account Executives and Marketing on messaging, outreach sequences,
webinars, campaigns, target lists, and market feedback.
• Build mortgage industry and Loan Vision product knowledge to support presentations, deliver
selected portions, and independently conduct appropriate presentations as readiness is
demonstrated.
• Meet or exceed defined expectations for outbound activity, appointments scheduled and
held, sales-qualified opportunities, sourced pipeline, and Salesforce hygiene.
• Share prospect feedback, recurring objections, competitive observations, and campaign
learnings with Sales and Marketing leadership.
What Success Looks Like
• Consistent activity and disciplined follow-up that create a steady flow of qualified sales
conversations.
• Quality over calendar volume: meetings are relevant, well-qualified, documented, and worth
the Account Executive's time.
• A measurable contribution to sales-qualified opportunities and new-to-new pipeline.
• Reliable Salesforce discipline, including accurate campaign attribution, clear notes, defined
next steps, and timely updates.
• Continuous growth in mortgage industry knowledge, discovery skills, product fluency, and
presentation capability.
Qualifications and Experience
• Previous experience in outbound B2B sales, business development, lead generation, or
prospecting is preferred.
• Experience in mortgage banking, fintech, SaaS, accounting, or financial software is a plus.
• A bachelor's degree is preferred; equivalent relevant education and experience will be
considered.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confidence engaging senior finance
leaders by phone, email, and video.
• Experience with Salesforce and Microsoft Office applications is preferred.
• Strong organization, prioritization, time management, attention to detail, and follow-through.
• A self-directed approach and the ability to stay productive and accountable in a fully remote,
fast-paced environment.
• Curiosity, coachability, resilience, and resourcefulness.
• A positive attitude, low ego, and team-first approach.
Development Path
The Sales Development Representative will receive opportunities to deepen product and industry
knowledge, participate in discovery and presentations, and take on broader presentation
responsibility as proficiency grows. Progression toward an Account Executive role will be based on
consistent performance, demonstrated readiness, and the needs of the business.
Benefits
• Unlimited PTO
• Standard holidays
• Competitive health benefits
• 401(k) program
• Collaborative work atmosphere
• Experience working in a high-growth, PE-backed software company
• Strong professional growth opportunities
Additional Position Information
This is a full-time, fully remote position with minimal travel. The role reports to the VP of Sales.
Specific performance targets, incentive components, eligibility requirements, and payment terms are
established in the applicable sales compensation plan.
