Job description

As an Account Representative — Corrugated Packaging, you will manage and grow an established territory of B2B accounts in the Barrie region and surrounding markets, selling corrugated packaging, colour pre-print packaging, point-of-purchase displays, and supply and inventory management services to manufacturers, distributors, and retailers across Ontario. You will be selling primarily to procurement and operations decision-makers at companies that ship or display product in corrugated containers.

In Year 1, this role is 80% account management and 20% new business development — your primary mandate is to stabilize and deepen the existing account base through a structured handoff from the departing representative. New business development is welcomed and encouraged from Day 1. This is a field-based outside sales role — you will be in the territory daily. The Year 1 base salary is $73,100 – $91,400 CAD, with no commission in the first 12 months.

Compensation & Benefits

Year 1 (Months 1–12)

  • Base salary: $73,100 – $91,400 CAD — paid weekly
  • No commission during Year 1 — focus is full account integration and relationship development
  • Vehicle allowance: up to approximately $1,400/month (includes gas, maintenance, vehicle-related expenses)

Year 2 (Month 13+)

  • Base salary: $31,000 CAD — minimal base structure
  • Commission activates from Month 13 on all existing accounts in the territory and all new accounts brought in during Year 1
  • Top performers in corrugated packaging build to $170,000 – $180,000+ over time; this is a long-cycle commission model — candidates who require high guaranteed earnings early are not the right fit

Additional Benefits

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage — dependents included — company funded
  • RRSP: $64/week company contribution — begins after 12 months of employment
  • Annual travel package for rep and partner
  • Point-based recognition rewards system
  • Quarterly recognition events and annual company gala
  • Academic scholarships for employees' children
  • Education assistance
  • PPE and safety equipment support
  • Opportunities for advancement within a national organization

The Company & Culture

Our client was founded in 1945 and is a privately owned, Canadian-owned company with over 80 years in business. Operating 12+ facilities across Canada and the United States, they are one of the largest corrugated packaging manufacturers in the country and are actively expanding their territory coverage across Ontario. Their product and service offering covers corrugated packaging, colour pre-print packaging, point-of-purchase displays, paper bag products, and full supply and inventory management — from structural design and ISTA-certified testing through to just-in-time delivery. Clients include businesses in manufacturing, electronics, automotive, food and beverage, e-commerce, and retail — any B2B organization that ships or displays product. The culture is team-focused with a strong recognition program — quarterly recognition events, an annual gala, and a point-based rewards system are standard.

Office Location & Sales Territory

  • Home office base: field-based — the rep operates primarily from their vehicle and client sites across the territory
  • Occasional visits to team offices in Scarborough, ON or Brampton, ON for meetings and training — infrequent requirement
  • Territory: Barrie and Greater Barrie Region — northern boundary beyond Innisfil; southern boundary approaching Scarborough, including Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Aurora, Newmarket, and Innisfil
  • Ideal candidate location: Barrie preferred — will consider candidates in Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Aurora, Newmarket, or Innisfil, provided they can cover the territory daily without excessive commute time
  • Working hours: standard business hours — field-based, self-managed schedule
  • Overnight travel: minimal — confirm specific requirements during the interview process
  • Valid Ontario driver's licence and reliable personal vehicle required — vehicle allowance provided in Year 1

Experience, Background & Education Requirements

  • 5–10 years of outside B2B sales experience — minimum 5 years is required
  • Corrugated packaging industry experience is the primary requirement — this is non-negotiable; candidates without corrugated background will not be considered unless they have corrugated-adjacent packaging experience and a genuinely exceptional track record
  • Broader packaging industry experience may be considered as a secondary option if corrugated candidates are unavailable
  • Proven track record managing a geographic territory with an established account base — demonstrated account retention and growth
  • Track record of new business development in a B2B field sales environment
  • Post-secondary education preferred — university degree or college diploma
  • Valid Ontario driver's licence and reliable personal vehicle — mandatory

Technical Skills

  • Microsoft Word — Intermediate
  • Microsoft Excel — Intermediate
  • Microsoft PowerPoint — Intermediate
  • CRM experience — asset

The Product / Service / Solution

  • Corrugated packaging — custom and standard
  • Colour pre-print packaging
  • Point-of-purchase displays
  • Paper bag products
  • Supply and inventory management services
  • Structural design and ISTA-certified packaging testing
  • Just-in-time delivery and Amazon APASS-compliant packaging solutions

Prospective Customers / Industry Focus / Decision Maker(s)

  • B2B companies across Ontario that ship or display product in corrugated containers
  • Target industries: manufacturing, electronics, automotive, food and beverage, e-commerce, retail and CPG
  • Primary decision-makers: procurement managers, operations directors, purchasing departments, supply chain leads
  • Account sizes range from SMB to mid-market and enterprise across the Barrie region and surrounding markets

Sales Cycle / Order Value / Account Size

  • Relationship-driven, consultative sales cycle — long-cycle model based on trust and account development
  • Repeat and ongoing supply relationships form the core of the account base
  • Order values vary by account size, packaging complexity, and volume — custom design projects carry higher values
  • Commission growth is tied to territory performance over multiple years — this is not a transactional or short-cycle sales environment

Competitive Advantages

  • Fully integrated manufacturer — covers design, testing, production, and delivery under one roof
  • ISTA-certified structural design and testing capabilities
  • Amazon APASS certification — critical for e-commerce clients requiring compliance documentation
  • National warehouse and facility network — 12+ locations across Canada and the US
  • Supply and inventory management services — positions the rep as a supply chain partner, not just a vendor
  • Sustainability credentials — relevant to compliance-driven and ESG-focused clients
  • 80+ years of established client relationships and market presence in Ontario

Typical Day & Duties

  • 80% Account Management — service, retain, and grow existing corrugated packaging accounts across the Barrie region
  • 20% New Business Development — prospect for and develop new accounts in the territory (exceeding this is welcomed)

On a typical day you will be driving the territory for in-person client visits, conducting consultative account reviews and packaging consultations, collaborating with Atlantic's structural design, graphics, and customer service teams to develop custom proposals, managing ongoing projects from design brief through to delivery, and prospecting for new business opportunities within your geography.

Leads

  • Inherited book of accounts — established relationships and active pipeline passed from the departing Account Representative
  • Structured handoff period with direct support from the outgoing rep
  • New business development requires active outbound prospecting within the defined territory — cold calling and direct outreach are expected
  • Internal support from Atlantic's customer service and design teams to support client presentations and proposals

Overnight Travel

  • Minimal — territory is geographically concentrated in the Barrie region and surrounding markets
  • Occasional travel to Scarborough or Brampton for team meetings and training

Support & Training

  • Structured handoff from the departing Account Representative — direct transition support from Day 1
  • Full product, service, and systems training provided
  • Collaboration with Atlantic's internal design, graphics, and customer service teams
  • Access to national organizational resources — 12+ facilities across Canada and the US

Why You Should Apply

  • Inherit an established, active book of corrugated packaging accounts from Day 1 — you are not starting from zero
  • Long-term commission upside — top performers build to $170,000 – $180,000+ as the territory grows
  • Industry-leading product and service offering — fully integrated manufacturer with design, testing, and supply management capabilities that competitors cannot match
  • Strong recognition culture — quarterly events, annual gala, point-based rewards, travel package, and advancement opportunities within a national organization
  • 80+ years of established brand credibility — selling for a market leader makes client conversations easier
