Job Purpose: The Commissions Analyst ensures the Company's commission expense is properly recorded in accordance with GAAP, all facility commission payments are calculated and processed accurately and timely, and all customer reporting/inquiries are addressed timely and professionally. Serves as a liaison with other departments related to customer commission matters, including but not limited to the Executive Team, Sales, and Legal.
Essential Duties:
  • Review, interpret and implement financial contractual terms to ensure commissions and other customer payments are accurately reflected in commissions system
  • Reconcile revenue data per commissions system to the general ledger to ensure completeness and accuracy of data; work with Revenue Accounting and IT to research and resolve variances
  • Calculate complex minimum annual payments per contractual terms and track all annual payments, flat payments, and future rate changes by contract
  • Calculate complex commission payments and reporting for Praeses sites
  • Process commission payments and contract incentive payments in accordance with contractual terms and record to general ledger; ensure all commission deductions are accurate and complete before commission payments are issued
  • Analyze commission expense trends as a percentage of revenue to identify and explain variances; resolve issues identified
  • Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts and research and resolve reconciling items on a timely basis; reconciliation monthly payments versus calculated commissions log and provide variance explanations
  • Research and respond to internal and external customer inquiries
  • Comply with SOX controls and departmental guidelines; update internal procedures as appropriate
  • Prepare audit support schedules and work with auditors as needed
  • Perform various ad hoc analyses as assigned
  • Assist with special projects related to new product rollouts, system enhancements, implementing efficiencies and company initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Thorough understanding of the Company's revenue streams, systems, and cross-functional processes in order to identify and resolve issues
  • This position is challenged with a multitude of system issues arising from the various revenue platforms and system interfaces that can often go undetected until they reach the Accounting department.
  • Ability to work closely with other departments to identify and research these issues in a timely manner and be able to account for the variances caused by system issues in time to meet the closing schedule and contractual deadlines for commission payments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office, general ledger, accounts payable and web-based software, with a strong emphasis on advanced Excel skills including VLOOK-up and formulas
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be detail oriented and highly accurate
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Self- sufficient, highly motivated with desire and ability to learn new skills
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley Act

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of business experience to include:
  • Data analytics, commission/royalty calculations, or other related experience in a system-driven environment
  • 2+ years of Accounting experience
  • 1+ years of experience interpreting and implementing contractual terms that involve commissions/royalties or other payments requiring complex calculations

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Accounting Analytics or other business-related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains
  • SOX compliance experience
  • Telecom experience
  • Doc-link experience
