Goals and Objectives of the Position:
• Present safety training program content focusing on creating a culture of awareness and responsibility for safety in the workplace
• Create positive learning environment to achieve the stated performance outcomes of Workplace Safety programs
Job Summary:
This is an on-call safety instructor position where there are no set hours on a regular basis and the instructor will typically work 40 hours or less per month. The instructor will be contacted and scheduled for work as needed by the Sales Team. Due to the nature of the job, the instructor will be requested to work on a date and time needed by a Safety Center Incorporated client. While we encourage the instructor to accept all such assignments, if there is a reason why they cannot work on a given date or time, the instructor may decline the scheduled work. When declining a scheduled assignment, the instructor may provide alternate dates/times of availability or assign the work to another instructor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Collaborate with the Workplace Safety Staff to adapt safety training programs to meet the unique needs of Safety Center Incorporated and utilize appropriate training techniques to produce positive learning outcomes.
• Coordinate with Staff to schedule classes, access PowerPoint presentations, and other class material as needed, and arrange for travel and accommodation required to meet client needs for program delivery.
• Collect and deliver class paperwork including tests, books, and class evaluations to the Workplace Safety Program Staff within one business day of the conclusion of the class to facilitate providing rosters and completion certificates to the client within our service guarantee.
• Contact the client between five and ten business days before the class to confirm the schedule and requirements for delivering the course and participate in a preplanning meeting if needed to ensure client needs are met.
• Provide feedback to Staff to identify opportunities for additional training and create a positive client experience.
• Periodic Quality Monitors will be conducted by Senior Vice Presidents to provide performance coaching.
• Submit timely expense reports with appropriate documentation for reimbursement and enter start and completion times in the payroll platform for travel, teaching, and administration to ensure accurate compensation.
• Participate in training classes to expand skills in teaching Safety Center programs and develop goals to build on strengths and increase the effectiveness in achieving learning outcomes for each class.
• Complete re-certification requirements on a timely basis to ensure qualifications are current for the work assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory duties.

Safety Instructor Level 1:
• Knowledge of Federal OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations
• OTJ teaching experience in related subject desired to teach
• Or, competent to teach Defensive Driving and/or First Aid/CPR
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and/or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, students and the general public
• Has the experience and knowledge to teach lower-level and mid-level SCI safety training courses
• 1 - 5 years’ experience in providing effective training/instruction
Safety Instructor Level 2:
• Knowledge of Federal OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations with OSHA Studies-college course work
• OTJ teaching experience in related subject desired to teach
• Possesses a Fed-OSHA or Cal/OSHA 10 or 30 Outreach Training Card, preferred
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and/or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, students and the general public
• Has the experience and knowledge to teach lower-level, mid-level and at least one high-level SCI safety training course
• 5 - 7 years’ experience in providing effective training/instruction, preferred
Safety Instructor Level 3:
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of Federal OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations with OSHA studies/college course work (Education, Certifications/Licenses)
• OTJ teaching experience in related subject desired to teach
• Posses a Fed-OSHA 500/501 Outreach Instructor Card, preferred
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, students and the general public
• Has the experience and knowledge to teach lower-level, mid-level and two high-level SCI safety training courses
• Uses knowledge and expertise in the development of course curriculum
• May provide professional services: IIPP program review and development, site audits, etc.
• 7-15 years’ experience in providing effective training/instruction, preferred
Safety Instructor Level 4:
• Extensive experience and working knowledge of Federal OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations, EPA, DOT, and local health and safety laws through Education, Certifications/Licenses, College Course Work, and OTJ Training.
• Possesses a Fed-OSHA or Cal/OSHA 500/501 Outreach Instructor Card, preferred
• Possesses safety designation (any kind), CSMS, CSP, ARM, OHST, CHST, CHSM preferred.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, students and the general public
• Certified and proven competency to provide instruction in lower-level, mid-level and three high-level SCI safety training courses.
• Uses knowledge and expertise to develop course curriculum.
• Provides professional services: IIPP program review and development, site audits, etc.
• Certified as a train-the-trainer (instructor trainer) in one or more areas of safety, with proven experience developing qualified and competent safety instructors.
• 15+ years’ experience in providing effective training/instruction, and or consulting, preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Travel required. The safety instructor is required to travel throughout their assigned region and is required to have adequate personal transportation, current driver’s license, and current auto insurance (100/300) for the travel required for this position.

Requirements of Successful Candidates:
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English to perform essential job functions. Bilingual Spanish skills are a plus but not required.
• Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Occupational Safety, Safety Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
•Minimum of five (5) years of experience in occupational health and safety, risk management, or a related field, preferably within industrial, manufacturing, public agency, or other high-risk environments.
•Minimum of five (5) years of experience in delivering training programs and instructional materials.
•Minimum of five (5) years of experience providing professional consultation services.
• Professional certifications such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), OSHA 500/501 Outreach Trainer authorization, Certified Train-the-Trainer credential, Defensive Driving Instructor certification, and First Aid/CPR Instructor certification are preferred.
• Working knowledge of federal OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations.
