Job description

ABOUT SHP
Strategic Healthcare Programs (SHP) is a leader in analytics and performance management solutions for the post-acute healthcare market. Since 1996, we have helped more than 7,000 organizations nationwide, including home health agencies, hospices, skilled nursing facilities, and hospitals, and turn clinical and operational data into real-time intelligence that improves patient outcomes. We are a SaaS company headquartered in Santa Barbara, CA, and a subsidiary of Roper Technologies (NYSE: ROP).
We are not just building software. We are building tools that help caregivers deliver better care to patients when it matters most. If that mission resonates with you, keep reading.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a Controller who wants to build something, not just maintain it. This is a player-coach role where you will lead the accounting function while staying close enough to the details to make the right calls on complex SaaS revenue recognition, drive a major ERP migration, and help shape the future of SHP's finance operations.
You will report to the VP of Finance and work alongside a team that values intellectual curiosity, continuous improvement, and getting things right. If you are the type of person who asks, "why do we do it this way?" and then builds a better answer, you will thrive here.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Own the Close
You will lead the monthly and quarterly close process from start to finish, ensuring SHP meets its reporting obligations on time and with precision. This includes managing the full close cycle, account reconciliations, and financial reporting packages, all executed with the rigor expected of a publicly traded parent company. A key part of this role is streamlining and improving the close process, including evaluating and implementing the tools and workflows needed to drive efficiency and scalability as SHP grows.
Be the Revenue Recognition Authority
SaaS revenue recognition is at the heart of this role. You will be the go-to authority on how SHP recognizes revenue under ASC 606, evaluating performance obligations, standalone selling price allocations, contract modifications, and variable consideration. As new deal structures come through the door, you will be the one the team turns to for the accounting answer. Equally important, you will use this domain expertise to help scale our revenue recognition processes, building repeatable frameworks that ensure consistent GAAP reporting as the business grows in complexity and volume.
Lead the ERP Migration
You will serve as the directly responsible individual for SHP's enterprise resource planning (ERP) migration. This means owning the chart of accounts design, data mapping, user acceptance testing, and go-live execution. You will work cross-functionally with IT, operations, and finance to make sure the new system is designed to support where SHP is headed, not just where we are today.
Be a Business Partner
Finance does not operate in a silo at SHP. You will serve as a trusted partner to leaders across the organization, helping translate financial data into actionable insight. Whether it is working with the product team on pricing decisions, collaborating with sales on deal structure, or partnering with IT on systems design, you will bring a financial perspective that helps the business make better decisions. You will earn trust through follow-through, transparency, and a willingness to engage with the details that matter to your stakeholders.
Coach and Develop the Team
You will be a hands-on leader who mentors the team through complex accounting judgments, helps them grow professionally, and builds a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. You will set the standard for what great looks like and create an environment for others to do their best work.
Improve Everything You Touch
We want someone who sees every close cycle as an opportunity to get better. You will identify bottlenecks, eliminate manual work, strengthen internal controls, and build scalable processes that support SHP's growth. If the current process does not make sense, you have the authority and the expectation to fix it.
WHAT YOU BRING
You have been in the weeds of SaaS accounting, and you have also led teams. You understand that being a great Controller means being both technically excellent and a leader people want to work with. Specifically:
  • Deep experience with revenue recognition under ASC 606 in a SaaS or subscription environment
  • Track record of leading or significantly contributing to an ERP implementation or migration
  • Proven ability to operate as a player-coach: you lead by doing, not just delegating
  • Comfort operating under tight monthly and quarterly reporting deadlines
  • A natural critical thinker who challenges assumptions and drives toward better outcomes
  • Strong U.S. GAAP foundation with experience reporting into a parent company or corporate reporting structure
  • Ability to build trusted relationships across departments and serve as a collaborative business partner

BONUS POINTS
These are not requirements, but they signal strong alignment with the role and the environment you will be stepping into:
  • CPA designation
  • Big 4 public accounting background
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite and its Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) module
  • Familiarity with Ramp (spend management), HubSpot (CRM), and close management platforms such as FloQast, Numeric, or similar

WHY SHP?
We are a mission-driven SaaS company where your work has a direct impact on healthcare quality for millions of patients. You will join a team that values smart, curious people who care about doing great work. We believe the best teams are the ones that are constantly learning, growing, and improving together, and we want people who find energy in that process.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits (health, dental, vision)
  • 401(k) with company match and employee stock purchase plan
  • Flexible remote work with a preference for Santa Barbara or Pacific time zone
  • Generous PTO, paid holidays, and a genuine commitment to work-life balance
  • A team and culture where you can do meaningful work while growing your career

Pay
$165,000. - $190,000. annual, depending upon experience.
This is a remote or hybrid position within the United States. Employees living within 75 miles of the Santa Barbara office are required to work in-person in the office every Wednesday.
This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
