POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The SQL Database Administrator will be responsible for managing DOE application databases supporting Galaxy Systems, Enterprise Application Systems, and Vendor Portal Systems. This includes performance tuning, data modeling, security administration, backup/restore operations, and supporting application enhancements with robust and scalable database solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, maintain, and optimize SQL Server databases used across DOE enterprise applications.
  • Support the development team in writing efficient stored procedures, triggers, and queries.
  • Implement data validation rules, transformation logic, and ETL pipelines to improve data accuracy and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with DOE cybersecurity, data privacy, and audit requirements.
  • Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies.
  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries, schemas, and database documentation.
  • Manage backup/restore strategy and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Support application releases, data migrations, environment refreshes, and integration with other DOE systems.
  • Troubleshoot database-related issues and collaborate with the development team for resolution.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 7+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of large-scale data management, data governance, and system integrations.
  • Experience supporting .NET applications and ETL processes.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server 2016+ version, T-SQL performance tuning, SSIS, Azure Data Factory, and ETL workflow design
  • Advanced knowledge in Database security, encryption, auditing, backup/restore, replication, and failover clustering
  • Experience with reporting frameworks (Power BI, SSRS a plus)
  • Strong analytical and debugging abilities
  • Effective communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to collaborate with developers, analysts, and DOE teams
  • Attention to data accuracy, integrity, and security
