An RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) is a certification for professionals specializing in designing and integrating communication and security systems, while an RTPM (Registered Telecommunications Project Manager) focuses on managing telecommunications projects, including planning, scheduling, and coordination. Both roles require technical knowledge, but RCDD emphasizes design expertise, whereas RTPM emphasizes project management skills.

What are RTPMs?

RTPM stands for Real-Time Performance Monitoring. RTPMs are professionals or tools responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and ensuring optimal performance of systems, networks, or applications in real-time. They help organizations quickly identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, minimize downtime, and maintain service quality. RTPMs are often used in industries like telecommunications, IT services, and cloud computing where continuous system uptime is critical.

These roles typically require extensive experience, advanced skills, and often involve leadership, high responsibility, or performance-based compensation structures.

What are some common challenges faced by a Real-Time Performance Manager (RTPM) and how can they be addressed?

As a Real-Time Performance Manager (RTPM), one of the most common challenges is balancing immediate operational needs with long-term process improvements. RTPMs often need to make quick decisions during high-volume periods to maintain service levels, which can be stressful. Effective communication with both frontline staff and management is crucial, as is the ability to analyze data rapidly to identify and resolve real-time issues. Building strong relationships with team members and leveraging workforce management tools can help address these challenges and ensure smooth operations.

The role often requires certifications like PMP and proficiency with project management tools, and employment prospects are generally strong in sectors such as IT, construction, and healthcare.

To thrive as a Real-Time Performance Manager (RTPM), you typically need a strong analytical background, knowledge of workforce management principles, and experience in call center operations. Familiarity with workforce management software (such as NICE, Verint, or Genesys), real-time dashboards, and process optimization tools is essential. Excellent communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills help RTPMs effectively coordinate teams and handle rapidly changing scenarios. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring service levels are met, resources are optimized, and operational efficiency is maintained in dynamic environments.

Job description

About the Role
Are you energized by coordinating complex technology projects, mentoring emerging leaders, and driving excellence across every phase of execution? Weโ€™re looking for an experienced technical Project Manager familiar with Division 27/28 who brings structure, clarity, and accountability to fast-paced, technical environments.
In this role, youโ€™ll serve as both project leader and mentor, guiding teams through the delivery of structured cabling, audiovisual, access control, CCTV, and DAS/RF systems. Youโ€™ll act as the operational and cultural anchor for Instrataโ€™s low-voltage field teams in the Raleigh marketโ€”bridging strategy and execution, and ensuring projects meet the highest standards of safety, quality and client satisfaction.
What Youโ€™ll Do โ€“ Lead with Clarity. Deliver with Confidence.
  • Drive Project Execution: Lead multiple concurrent Division 27/28 projects from kickoff through closeout, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery. Oversee scheduling, budgets, submittals, and resource planning across AV, security, and telecom scopes.
  • Be the Client Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, general contractors, and vendor partners. Maintain consistent, proactive communication on progress, milestones, and challenges.
  • Mentor and Develop Teams: Coach and support junior and field project managers, helping them strengthen communication, documentation, and project control skills. Model composure under pressure and lead with professionalism, empathy, and consistency.
  • Ensure Technical Precision: Review and interpret engineered drawings, RFIs, and submittals for accuracy and constructability. Validate all QA/QC deliverables, test results, and as-built documentation against BICSI, TIA/EIA, and NFPA standards.
  • Manage the Financial Picture: Track budgets, forecasts, and profitability across your projects. Identify and document change conditions, validate labor and material usage, and maintain disciplined cost control.
  • Champion Collaboration: Coordinate with shared servicesโ€”including Engineering, Estimating, Procurement, QA/QC, and Serviceโ€”to ensure seamless post-award execution. Lead kickoffs, progress reviews, and post-mortem meetings to drive continuous improvement.
  • Set the Standard: Uphold Instrataโ€™s values of professionalism, respect, and accountability in every client interaction and team engagement. Reinforce a culture of safety, quality, and mentorship on-site and in the office.
What You Bring
  • 7โ€“10 years of experience managing large-scale, multi-discipline low-voltage or mission-critical construction projects.
  • Proven success leading teams in structured cabling, audiovisual, access control, or RF/DAS environments.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring or developing junior project managers or field leaders.
  • Proficiency in Smartsheet, Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Certifications preferred: RTPM, PMP, BICSI Technician, or RCDD.
  • OSHA 30 and safety leadership training are preferred.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related fieldโ€”or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Why Join Us?
  • Impact: Lead projects that shape the future of mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Leadership: Guide teams, mentor future PMs, and influence regional growth.
  • Collaboration: Partner with highly skilled technical teams who share your drive for excellence.
  • Growth: Build your leadership trajectory in a company that values accountability and development.
  • Culture: Work in a people-first environment built on respect, professionalism, and partnership.
Work Environment amp; Physical Requirements
  • Primarily office-based with regular site visits for coordination and quality checks.
  • Regular standing, walking, and use of tools or computer-based applications.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Some after-hours work or travel may be required based on project needs.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Ready to Lead Whatโ€™s Next?
If youโ€™re a strategic project leader who thrives on bringing people, technology, and process togetherโ€”and takes pride in developing others along the wayโ€”weโ€™d love to meet you. Apply today and help us deliver excellence across every connection at Instrata.
