Collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers is essential as you relay test results and assist in diagnosing respiratory conditions. Additionally, you will maintain testing equipment, calibrate devices, and document results accurately in patient records. The role is both patient-facing and highly technical, providing a rewarding blend of clinical interaction and diagnostic expertise.

What is an RPFT job?

A Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) is a healthcare professional who specializes in conducting advanced pulmonary function tests to assess lung function. They work in hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic labs to help diagnose and monitor respiratory conditions such as asthma, COPD, and restrictive lung diseases. RPFTs operate specialized equipment, analyze test results, and collaborate with physicians to develop treatment plans. Certification as an RPFT is earned through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) after passing the required examination.
