Unlike traditional accounting firms, AARC combines engineering, environmental consulting, artificial intelligence, and tax expertise to help innovative companies maximize federal and state tax incentives. Our multidisciplinary approach enables us to identify opportunities that conventional accounting firms often overlook.


As our Managing Director โ€“ Tax Incentives, you will lead the growth of a national practice focused on Research & Development Tax Credits and other business incentive programs while working directly with the CEO and executive leadership team.

Position Overview

The Managing Director will provide strategic leadership for AARCโ€™s Tax Incentives practice by driving revenue growth, developing client relationships, overseeing technical quality, and expanding service offerings. This executive role requires an individual who is equally comfortable discussing complex tax regulations with CPAs, technical uncertainties with engineers, and business strategies with CEOs and private equity investors. The successful candidate will be expected to establish AARC as a nationally recognized leader in innovation-based tax incentives.


Executive Leadership Responsibities

Practice Development

  • Build and lead AARCโ€™s national Tax Incentives practice.
  • Develop strategic growth initiatives.
  • Establish annual revenue and profitability objectives.
  • Develop scalable processes and delivery methodologies.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing professionals.
  • Create strategic alliances with CPA firms, law firms, engineering firms, and industry associations.


Business Development

  • Develop relationships with CEOs, CFOs, Controllers, Tax Directors, and business owners.
  • Build referral networks with CPA firms and legal professionals.
  • Conduct executive presentations and educational seminars.
  • Identify opportunities for new tax incentive services.
  • Represent AARC at conferences and industry events.
  • Develop strategic marketing initiatives with executive leadership.


Technical Leadership

Provide executive oversight for engagements involving:

  • Federal Research & Development Tax Credits
  • State R&D Tax Credits
  • Section 174 Capitalization
  • Energy Tax Incentives
  • Manufacturing Incentives
  • Cost Segregation Opportunities
  • Investment Tax Credits
  • Federal and State Economic Development Incentives
  • Emerging tax incentive opportunities


Client Advisory

Serve as a trusted advisor by:

  • Leading executive kickoff meetings.
  • Interviewing engineering and technical personnel.
  • Evaluating qualified research activities.
  • Reviewing engineering documentation.
  • Developing defensible technical narratives.
  • Presenting findings to executive management.
  • Supporting IRS examinations when required.


Operational Leadership

  • Oversee project execution from engagement through final delivery.
  • Ensure technical excellence and quality control.
  • Manage project profitability and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, environmental, AI, and finance teams.
  • Continuously improve methodologies using emerging technologies, including AI-assisted analysis.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, Tax, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive professional experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of direct experience with R&D Tax Credits.
  • Demonstrated success leading client engagements.
  • Exceptional executive presentation skills.
  • Proven business development experience.

Strong understanding of:

  • Internal Revenue Code Section 41
  • Treasury Regulations
  • Qualified Research Expenses (QREs)
  • ASC and Regular Credit methodologies
  • Section 174 capitalization requirements
  • IRS audit procedures


Preferred Qualfications

One or more of the following:

  • CPA
  • Master of Taxation (MST)
  • Juris Doctor (Tax)
  • Engineering Degree
  • Big Four or National CPA Firm experience
  • Leadership experience within a consulting organization
  • Experience supporting IRS examinations involving R&D credits
