What is a Rota job?

A Rota job typically refers to a role where work is scheduled on a rotating basis, often in shifts. This type of scheduling is common in industries that require 24/7 coverage, such as healthcare, hospitality, and security. Employees follow a predetermined timetable that may change weekly or monthly, ensuring continuous coverage. Rota jobs can offer flexibility but may also require working evenings, weekends, or holidays.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Rota position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rota Nanny, you need substantial childcare experience, strong organizational skills, and relevant certifications such as pediatric first aid or early childhood education. Familiarity with household management systems, family scheduling apps, and travel logistics is common in this role. Flexibility, discretion, and excellent communication are essential soft skills to work effectively with families and adapt to changing routines. These skills ensure safe, reliable, and high-quality care within demanding and dynamic home environments.

What does a typical work schedule look like for a Rota Nanny position?

In a Rota Nanny position, you usually work in cycles such as one or two weeks on, followed by an equivalent amount of time off. During your working weeks, you’re typically on duty for extended hours—often living in and providing round-the-clock support to the family. This arrangement allows for periods of intense work balanced by generous time off, making it well-suited to individuals seeking predictable blocks of personal time. Collaboration with another nanny is common, ensuring a seamless transition and consistent care for the children.

Job description

A warm, thoughtful, and first-time mother based in Brooklyn is seeking two exceptional rotational nannies to provide consistent, high-level care for her infant daughter. This is a beautiful opportunity for professional, polished nannies who are confident with infants and thrive in a structured yet emotionally intuitive household.

This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy fully stepping into the rhythm of a home during their rotation while maintaining strong communication with their counterpart to ensure seamless continuity of care. Rotational roles provide 24/7 coverage during scheduled shifts, typically alternating weekly or bi-weekly.

The family values a calm, engaging environment where the child is consistently stimulated, nurtured, and supported developmentally—while also maintaining independence and routine.

Schedule
  • Rotational schedule: 1 week on / 1 week off (flexible)
  • 24/7 coverage while on rotation
  • Flexibility required for schedule adjustments and travel
  • Preference for local, live-out candidates based in Brooklyn/NYC who are able to transition to live-in/overnight coverage during scheduled rotations when needed

  • Full responsibility for infant care during rotation
  • Managing feeding schedules, naps, and overall routine
  • Supporting developmental milestones through engaging, age-appropriate activities
  • Bottle prep, sterilization, and organization
  • Maintaining nursery and all baby-related spaces
  • Baby laundry and organization
  • Creating a stimulating yet balanced environment (engagement + independent play)
  • Supporting transitions (sleep routines, solids, developmental stages)
  • Packing and preparing for travel
  • Maintaining clear, consistent communication with co-nanny to ensure seamless handovers

  • Background in early childhood development or similar
  • Second language (Spanish preferred, not required)
  • Driver’s license (preferred for future needs)
  • Warm, nurturing, and emotionally intuitive
  • Calm, confident, and highly reliable
  • Engaging and developmentally focused without being overly rigid
  • Collaborative and communicative with co-nanny
  • Able to “step in” fully during rotation and manage care independently
  • Naturally proactive and takes initiative

  • Minimum 5+ years of professional nanny experience
  • Experience working in private/UHNW households
  • Strong infant experience (newborn → toddler transitions)
  • Prior ROTA experience strongly preferred
  • Passport ready and open to international and last-minute travel
  • Ability to swim
  • Discreet, professional, and comfortable in a private home
  • Flexible and comfortable with a dynamic, evolving schedule (including last-minute travel needs)
  • Willingness to sign an NDA
  • Highly flexible and adaptable

  • Competitive salary: $100K–$140K+ DOE per nanny
  • Health stipend or healthcare support
  • PTO aligned with rotation schedule
  • Private accommodations provided while on duty
  • Travel expenses covered
  • Additional benefits to be discussed
