Summary
About the Position: This position serves as the Executive Assistant, and principal civilian assistant to the Commander of the Portland District. Work consists of interpreting, developing, and ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of policies, programs, and regulations for the District.

  • Advise and assist in the formulation and execution of executive policies and administrative programs.
  • Build relationships that enhance stakeholder trust in reliability of the missions.
  • Serve as the District Protocol Official.
  • Serve on committees, boards, and project delivery teams.
  • Review all executive level correspondence.
  • Provide continuity regarding policies and procedures.
  • Supervise administrative personnel assigned to the executive office.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience:One year of specialized experience which includes experience in all of the following areas: (1) Managing the administrative support operations of an Executive level office in a large organization; (2) Conducting studies that evaluate and recommend ways to improve efficiency of work operations; AND (3) Liaison with high ranking entities such as members of Congress, Federal, state, tribal and local agencies regarding inquiries or concerns about programs, policies or projects within the organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
