A Brief Overview
Respiratory Therapy Auditor position is responsible for auditing and reconciling patient charts (i.e., medical record) daily and/or upon request from Payor's auditors, Patient Accounting, Risk Management, Revenue Cycle, and other hospital entities needing completion of audit for reasons of treatment, payment or operations to ensure accuracy and in compliance with regulatory requirements, hospital and system policies and procedures. This position will complete audits to ensure that the clinical documentation contained within the patient chart supports items and services included on the patient bill and identifies and corrects errors or discrepancies to accurately support reasons for treatment, billing, payment or operations. The Respiratory Therapy Auditor position ensures clinical documentation supports all patient billing, verifies all patient services are listed for payment, and provides education/training regarding proper documentation standards.
Essential Functions
  • Review respiratory therapy documentation to determine appropriate documentation.
    • Timely audit of respiratory therapy documentation to ensure collaboration with Dr's documentation, the pulmonary note, H&P's and other chart information as needed.
    • Specific items being audited are any services provided by a respiratory therapists.
    • Audit may include confirmation of information via software programs, vendor provided information or documentation from the respiratory therapists.
    • Timely audit billing levels associated with all respiratory therapy patient care. Insure complete and accurate
    • Work with respiratory therapy staff in appropriate area as required to correct if needed
    • Provide training as needed to Respiratory Therapist's on proper documentation requirements to meet standards.
    • Reconciles patient charts, services and items included in the patient's chart with services and items included on the patient's bill upon request from Payor's auditors, Patient Accounting, Risk Management, Revenue Cycle, and other hospital entities needing completion of audit for reasons of treatment, payment or operations.
    • Intervenes and takes appropriate action to foster real-time compliance to performance measures associated with regulatory, national, and regional guidelines. Interventions to promote compliance may include discussion, and/or collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare personnel.

Education Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited school of respiratory care Required

Experience Qualifications
  • 1-3 years Experienced in respiratory care for neonates and or pediatrics patients Required

Skills and Abilities
  • Basic Computer skills required.
  • Experience with EPIC preferred, but not required.
  • Analytical skills to perform accurate and extensive audits on selected patients accounts.
  • Good interpersonal skills with courteous phone manner imperative.
  • Ability to work independently to efficiently perform assigned duties.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner Current valid Nebraska RT license Upon Hire Required and
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist Registered Respiratory Therapist Upon Hire Required
