Job description

Under limited supervision of the Response and Remediation Program (RRP) Manager, the Unit manager directs the activities of environmental professionals in overseeing the investigation and cleanup of contaminated sites.ย  The Unit is primarily dedicated to preparing for and managing state contractor work on abandoned sites using the Hazardous Waste Trust Fund (HWTF). This includes completing abandoned site evaluations, determining site investigation and remediation requirements and costs, prioritizing work and alternatives, assigning and managing state contractors, reviewing and approving reports and invoices, and completing documentation for site removal from the Georgia Hazardous Site Inventory. The manager acts as a subject area technical expert and routinely provides leadership, guidance, and training for staff and interested parties.ย  The manager will be involved in the development, interpretation, implementation, and enforcement of federal and state regulations, policies, guidance and procedures (including HSRA, VRPA, UECA, and GBA), and will manage the HWTF State Contract.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

Experience in project management, hazardous site characterization, and corrective action.

Experience in the interpretation and implementation of applicable state and federal regulations.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Comfortable in interacting with the public and in supervising professional staff.

Experience in developing policies and procedures and in process improvement.
