Job description
Lao Family Community Development, Inc. (LFCD) is a community-based non-profit organization established in Richmond, Contra Costa County, California, in 1980. Since then, LFCD has expanded its operations to Alameda and Sacramento counties with its headquarters located in Oakland, California.
LFCD delivers programs and services from seven locations in more than 35 languages. The organization provides community development, affordable real estate, workforce development, education, and human services that primarily support low-income individuals and families, refugees, immigrants, transitional-age youth, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and other underserved populations.
Job Summary
Lao Family Community Development (LFCD) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Grants & Resource Development Fellow to support the organization's institutional fundraising, grant development, strategic partnerships, and organizational communications efforts. Under the supervision of the Community Economic Development Supervisor, the Fellow supports institutional fundraising by identifying funding opportunities, conducting research, coordinating proposal development, preparing grant applications, maintaining grant management systems, and collaborating across departments to secure public and private funding that advances LFCD's mission.
The Fellow also supports agency-wide marketing and communications initiatives by developing compelling written content, storytelling, impact reports, digital communications, and marketing materials that highlight LFCD's programs, partnerships, and community impact while strengthening community engagement, funder relations, and public awareness.
This fellowship provides hands-on experience in nonprofit grant writing, institutional fundraising, project management, marketing communications, and community development. Through mentorship and practical application, the Fellow will strengthen skills in strategic planning, proposal development, organizational communications, and partnership building while contributing to initiatives that improve the lives of underserved communities throughout California. This position is based at LFCD's Oakland Headquarters with occasional travel to other office locations as needed.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing competitive grant proposals, requests for proposals (RFPs), letters of interest (LOIs), concept papers, executive summaries, and supporting documents for federal, state, county, city, corporate, and private foundation funding opportunities.
- Draft proposal narratives, statements of need, organizational capacity sections, work plans, goals, objectives, and evaluation plans using organizational templates and program information.
- Coordinate the collection of required proposal attachments, including organizational documents, budgets, certifications, letters of support, resumes, and other submission requirements.
- Edit, proofread, and format proposal packages to ensure accuracy, consistency, compliance, and high-quality presentation.
- Research and monitor federal, state, county, municipal, corporate, and private foundation funding opportunities through grant databases, procurement portals, and funding announcements that align with LFCD's mission and strategic priorities.
- Maintain grant calendars, submission schedules, funding records, and tracking systems for proposal submissions, awards, reporting requirements, and compliance deadlines.
- Coordinate proposal development with program managers, finance staff, executive leadership, and external partners.
- Schedule proposal planning meetings and monitor internal work plans and submission timelines.
- Follow up with internal departments to gather program information, budgets, data, and required documentation.
- Assist in coordinating partnership communications and collaborative funding opportunities.
- Assist with grant reporting, documentation, and closeout activities in collaboration with program and finance staff.
- Support the development of organizational marketing and communications materials that promote LFCD's mission, programs, partnerships, and community impact while maintain consistent organizational messaging, branding, and communication materials across departments.
- Coordinate with program staff to gather participant stories, program highlights, photographs, testimonials, and impact data.
- Compile program outcomes, demographic data, performance measures, organizational statistics, and maintain organizational boilerplate, program descriptions, agency profiles, and impact statements for grant proposals, reports, and marketing materials.
- Assist in evaluating proposal outcomes and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support relationship-building activities that strengthen LFCD's network of community partners and funders.
- Support special projects and agency initiatives that strengthen organizational effectiveness and long-term sustainability.
- Bachelor's degree and/or current enrollment in a graduate program in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Communications, English, Business Administration, Community Development, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Marketing, or another related field is required
- Demonstrated excellent verbal, written, editing, and interpersonal communication skills in English. Additional languages spoken by the communities served by LFCD are highly desirable.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills along with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience in research and strong analytical abilities.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
