POSITION SUMMARY:
The Vice President of Finance is a key member of the resort's Senior Leadership Team (SLT), reporting directly to the Resort President and serving as a strategic business partner. This role provides financial leadership, insight, and direction to ensure operational excellence, sustainable growth, and alignment with Alterra Mountain Company's enterprise objectives. The VP of Finance leads the local finance team and collaborates closely with Shared Services, FP&A and Accounting to deliver accurate forecasting, reporting, forward-looking analysis, and actionable insights. This position leads the Sugarbush Mountain Resort in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, financial training, capital planning and reporting, and more. This is a full-time year-round position with a starting salary of $120,000 annually depending on experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • A broad combination of: Strategic Thinking & Innovation, Relationship Building & Emotional Intelligence, Data Modeling & Scenario Planning, Regulatory & Compliance Awareness, Leadership & Talent Development.
  • Lead the annual business planning process, including development of operating budgets, capital plans, and the 5-year plan.
  • Oversee operating P&L and growth & maintenance capital annual budgeting, ensuring projects align with financial and operational priorities.
  • Provide financial insights to the Resort President and Senior Leadership Team to drive operational decision-making.
  • Monitor financial performance through key financial metrics and reporting dashboards.
  • Lead monthly operating P&L and growth and maintenance capital forecasting processes with Resort department heads.
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities within resort operations and provide data-driven recommendations to drive results.
  • Drive actionable insights from post-mortem review of operational performance and capital investments.
  • Provide financial insights to the Resort President and Senior Leadership Team to drive operational decision-making.
  • Monitor financial performance through key financial metrics and reporting dashboards.
  • Set vision and strategy for long-range planning, annual budgeting, forecasting, and performance management.
  • Lead operating P&L and capital planning oversight, ensuring alignment with long-term financial strategy.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to align with corporate objectives and drive long-term resort profitability.
  • Act as the primary financial representative for corporate finance teams, auditors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Oversee financial governance, internal controls, and regulatory compliance across all resort financial.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Required: Undergraduate degree; ideally a degree in finance, business administration, or equivalent.
  • Optional: Masters or MBA with a focus on finance.
  • Minimum 10-15+ years of experience, including managing a team. Experience in finance, investment banking, consulting, or investor relations is strongly preferred.
  • A combination of the completion of a Degree in Finance or Accounting, ten years of experience in a senior-level finance position, and an MBA and/or CPA.
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. An ability to motivate teams to produce quality deliverables within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects. Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
  • Performance record should show success working with all levels of management and personnel.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and ERP systems, as well as PowerBi reporting.
  • This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays, both indoors and outdoors, and may require lifting 50 lbs.
