What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Reservoir Engineering Manager, and why are they important?
What Does a Reservoir Engineering Manager Do?
As a reservoir engineering manager, your job is to oversee other engineers in the oil and gas industry who are tasked with modeling and understanding the most cost-efficient way to extract gas reserves from a well or reservoir rock. Reservoir engineers typically specialize in either surveillance engineering or dynamic modeling, which entails developing complex models to determine the best way to carry out an extraction project. As the reservoir engineering manager, you oversee all projects and report on any logistics and feasibility issues your team models. You also ensure that all processes comply with an organization’s objectives and policies.
What does a Reservoir Engineering Manager do?
How does a Reservoir Engineering Manager typically collaborate with geoscientists and other engineering teams?
What is the difference between Reservoir Engineering Manager vs Reservoir Engineer?
| Aspect | Reservoir Engineering Manager | Reservoir Engineer |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Bachelor's or Master's in Petroleum Engineering, with experience in management | Bachelor's or Master's in Petroleum Engineering or related field |
| Work Environment | Leads teams, oversees projects, strategic planning | Performs technical reservoir analysis, modeling, and simulation |
| Industry Usage | Used in oil & gas companies for leadership roles | Used across exploration, production, and consulting firms |
The Reservoir Engineering Manager focuses on leading teams and strategic decision-making, while the Reservoir Engineer handles technical reservoir analysis and modeling. Both roles require similar educational backgrounds, but differ in responsibilities and scope within the industry.
