Description

Duties: The Principal Advisor, R&D at Midcontinent Independent System Operator Inc. in Carmel, IN will lead research and economic analysis to evaluate and address economic issues, concerns, and opportunities for enhancing MISO’s value proposition, market efficiency, and grid reliability. This role will develop reports and presentations and facilitate discussion of technical issues and solutions with business teams, MISO executive management, and stakeholders. Develop prototypes for energy markets, operations, and technology systems. Lead internal and external resources in conducting studies and summarizing key trends and risks. Guide teams to conduct qualitative primary and secondary research related to emerging trends, technological innovations, and best practices. Guide teams to manage the collection and re-processing of results for reporting. Oversee the data-driven research techniques that drive analytical-based decision-making, focused on electricitymarket mechanisms and reliability activities. Guide team to use econometrics, economic theory, optimization, and quantitative methods to document results clearly and concisely, including presenting data in graphs and charts, describing approaches used to derive results, and interpreting the results. Drive team to conduct impact assessments, using advanced research techniques. Create white papers and formal publications to share research findings and strategic initiatives. Telecommuting is permitted 1 day per week. Annual Salary: $168,000-193,000 #LI-NDI #LI-DNI #LI-DNP #INDdni

Minimum Requirements: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Research, Economics, or a related field and 10 years of experience in an applied research setting, including academia, lab, or industry research group with a focus on electricity research. Must have 10 years of experience with each of the following: (1) wholesale electricity market design, implementation, monitoring, settlements, or operation; (2) market clearing engines, including security constrained unit commitment and economic dispatch and electricity pricing; (3) econometrics and economics analysis of electricity market data including, time-series, statistical modeling, and causal inference; (4) quantitative modeling for market functions, including Energy and Ancillary service markets, capacity market and accreditation, market-to-market seams, FTR revenue, and allocations; and (5) collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to understand current and future needs and develop strategies, priorities and metrics to meet future challenges.
