Job description

As a Market Evaluation Analyst II, you will perform analysis and economic studies focused on the performance, efficiency, behaviors, and overall impact of MISO’s wholesale electricity markets. You will evaluate market outcomes and operational events, use data to identify potential issues within MISO’s markets and systems, and turn complex information into meaningful insights. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to market design improvements and analytical projects that can positively impact MISO’s stakeholders and, ultimately, the end-use customers we serve.

In one year, you will know you’re successful if:

  • You independently perform statistical and economic analyses of market and system operations, market products, Market Participant behaviors, and resulting market outcomes
  • You have developed a strong working knowledge of MISO’s wholesale electricity markets and understand how our market systems, processes, and products work together
  • You assess the health and performance of MISO’s markets, provide timely analysis and reporting on market and operational events, and identify outcomes that may require additional evaluation
  • You collect, organize, and analyze complex datasets to identify meaningful patterns, trends, behaviors, and potential market or system issues
  • You use data analysis, visualization, and other advanced data technologies to solve business problems and expand the team’s analytical capabilities
  • You translate complex analysis into clear findings and recommendations that support business decisions and can be effectively communicated to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • You contribute to key projects that strengthen the team’s analytical capabilities, including identifying opportunities to streamline processes and automate repetitive activities
  • You contribute to team goals, create useful insights, ask relevant questions, and help identify opportunities to improve market performance

This role requires:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Economics, Operations Research, or another related field
  • At least two (2) years of relevant professional experience
  • Strong experience with data analysis tools and programming languages such as R, EViews, SAS, Python, VBA, Power BI, and Azure
  • Experience developing metrics, visualizations, and reports, including automating reporting processes and creating alerts to identify meaningful changes or trends

Some preferred skills and experience include:

  • Experience in areas such as energy market forecasting and analysis, power system analysis and operations, software development, data science, statistical or econometric analysis, or wholesale market design
  • Previous experience working within deregulated wholesale electricity markets or the utility industry
  • Experience within the energy industry, particularly with a Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) or Market Participant

At MISO, your work helps ensure the reliable operation and continued evolution of one of the world's largest and most complex electric grids. In this role, you'll have an opportunity to help shape how MISO responds to rapidly growing large-load demand while strengthening the connection between where the grid is headed and what it needs to reliably deliver today.

The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $71,000-$96,000 USDannually. Base salary range for this position is included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individual competencies, education/professional certifications, and qualifications/experience.

Position is also eligible for an annual bonus if individual performance and company objectives are met. At MISO we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including 401k, vacation, sick and safe time, available on your first day of employment.

Transformative innovation is happening in the electric industry, from digitalizing homes and distributed resources to renewable energy and an ever-changing grid. MISO manages the electricity superhighway in the Central U.S. Using groundbreaking research and sophisticated technology, our highly skilled employees ensure power flows reliably to 47 million people throughout North America. Operating the electricity grid, running a robust energy market, and planning for a bright future – it’s what our immensely hard-working and dedicated team does every day.

Join #TeamMISO to be a driving force as we build the grid of the future.
