Job description

Job Title: Wireless Telecommunications Project Lead

Pay Range: $39-$88/hr

Location: (Portland, OR) remote 100%

Position Overview

This position is open to candidates located anywhere in the United States. Preference may be given to candidates located near a U.S.-based office; however, the primary focus is identifying the most qualified candidate.

The Wireless Telecommunications Design Project Lead will support a variety of projects within the Data Center market, leading wireless telecommunications system design efforts from concept through completion. This role requires close collaboration with engineers, BIM designers, clients, vendors, and regulatory authorities while managing multiple concurrent projects and ensuring timely delivery.

 

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct preliminary assessments and develop design concepts.
  • Lead wireless telecommunications design efforts with support from engineering peers, subject matter experts, and BIM designers.
  • Coordinate internal and external problem resolution.
  • Produce and review drawings and specifications.
  • Maintain communication and accessibility with customers and vendors.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and ensure on-time completion.
  • Provide technical design leadership for systems including:
    • Commercial DAS
    • Public Safety DAS
    • LMR (Land Mobile Radio)
    • Site Radio
    • RoIP (Radio over IP)
    • Wi-Fi
    • Tower Studies
  • Design wireless systems using iBwave and EDX.
  • Coordinate with BIM designers to create drawing packages.
  • Coordinate with AHJs, radio system owners, and wireless carriers.
  • Create or modify Division 27 specifications.
  • Conduct site visits and field reviews.
  • Review technical documentation.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Technical or Associate’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of experience designing wireless telecommunications systems, including:
    • LMR 2-way radio systems (outdoor LMR, Site Radio, and RoIP)
    • Public Safety DAS systems
    • Commercial DAS systems, including:
      • OTA DAS
      • Neutral Host DAS
      • DRAN DAS
  • 5+ years of experience with iBwave, EDX, Atoll, LMR Planner, or a combination of wireless modeling platforms.
  • Experience working directly with clients to identify wireless communications needs.
  • Experience troubleshooting wireless communication system issues from field teams.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Noise Floor
    • SNIR
    • Return Loss
    • VSWR
  • Experience optimizing wireless networks during both design and installation phases.
  • Thorough knowledge of:
    • NFPA 72
    • NFPA 1221
    • NFPA 1225
    • IFC Section 510
    • Carrier KPIs
    • IBC
    • FCC Part 20 and Part 90
    • FCC OET Bulletin 65
    • MOTOTRBO systems
    • Motorola R56 installation standards
    • DMR Tier III
  • Familiarity with Navisworks.
  • Strong project management and coordination skills.
  • Experience responding to RFPs.
  • Experience developing project budgets and schedules.
  • Experience identifying and mitigating project and company risks.
  • iBwave Level 2 Certification (required).

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing Wi-Fi systems.
  • EDX or Motorola design certifications.
  • FCC GROL.
  • NICET Design Certification.
  • Multiple OEM product certifications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Communications Engineering.
  • EIT or PE license.
