Description

SAIC is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the design, integration, and modernization of complex systems across a naval portfolio. This role will be responsible for ensuring technical solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with mission and operational requirements. Work is performed in San Diego, CA.
The Systems Engineer will report to the Program Manager and play a key role in supporting the successful execution. This position requires deep technical expertise and close collaboration with project managers, architects, cybersecurity team, and government stakeholders to translate requirements into robust system solutions. 
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in systems engineering in defense or federal environments, with the ability to operate across full system lifecycle in a fast-paced mission driven setting. 
This position is contingent upon award news, expected in July 2027.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead systems engineering activities across a full lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, integration, testing and deployment. Develop and maintain system architectures, interface control documents, and technical baseline. Translate operational needs and business requirements into scalable, secured technical solutions. Support integration of hardware, software, network, and cloud-based systems. Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity frameworks, such as ATO requirements. Collaborate with cross functional teams to resolve technical challenges ensuring alignment across the portfolio. Conduct system performance analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization. Support test and evaluation activities. Provide technical input to program planning, risk management and decision-making processes.  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree desired, or additional yrs of experience accepted in lieu of degree
Clearance: Active Secret.
Certifications: MCSE Core Infrastructure, MCSA Windows Server, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA A+

Experience:

  • 9+ years of experience in systems engineering. 
  • Proven experience designing and integrating complex systems and architectures. 
  • Strong understanding of networking, cloud, cybersecurity and enterprise IT systems. 
  • Experience with DoD frameworks and processes such as RMF, ATO process, and system accreditation. 
  • Ability to develop technical documentation and communicate complex concepts to diverse stakeholders. 
  • Experience with engineering and collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.)
  • Duty location will be in San Diego, CA
  • Travel may be required up to 25% of the time.
  • Position requires candidate to be on government site daily.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience supporting Navy systems and NAVWAR environments. Familiarity with cloud platform (AWS, Azure, etc.)  and DevSecOps pipelines. Experience working in matrixed portfolio-based program structures.  Experience DISA, STIGs, and developing and fielding new capabilities.

Target salary range: $150,000 - $190,000 The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
