Job description

NOTE:  This position is available for remote work within the contiguous United States, with travel as required for business needs.  Preference is for work to be performed in our Corvallis, OR office.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. The Manager of NSSS Appurtenance Design leads a team of engineers that responsible for the design of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III appurtenance and other components of the NPM.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manages a team of professionals and provides assistance and mentoring on technical work.
  • Leads planning, coordinating and executing of work-related to NSSS appurtenance and other components of the NPM.
  • Leads peer reviews and technical audits to ensure conformance to requirements.
  • Manages the preparation and review of engineering deliverables that communicate the design and technical aspects of the NSSS appurtenance and other components. Typical design deliverables include: Design Specification, Loading reports, Design drawings, Interface Control Drawings, Calculations, Vendor design Scopes of Work, Vendor oversight activities, QME/EQ Specifications
  • Provides technical and advisory assistance to other projects and offices.
  • Participates in developing and updating company technical standards and practices.
  • Prepares estimates, schedules, labor, and material forecasts.
  • Understands and applies sound approaches and standards for solving technical problems in applicable discipline, and leads crossโ€functional projects within areas of responsibility.
  • Performs administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving timecards, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
  • Develops technical statements of work.
  • Evaluates performance, administers coaching, and conducts annual performance reviews.
  • Develops training materials in areas of subject matter expertise.
  • Develops team membersโ€™ capabilities in support of individual career goals and team objectives.
  • Interfaces and coordinates with internal and external clients as required for successful project execution.
  • Develops effective relationships within the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
  • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering is required. A professional engineer license registration and an advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering are preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of eight years of full-time, progressively responsible engineering experience required. Lead and/or managerial experience preferred.  Additional required skills and experience include:
    • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases. Strong technical writing skills.
    • Understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theories for design related activities for NSSS appurtenance design.
    • Proven track record of leading staff from multiple disciplines and coordinating design interfaces to provide design solutions in a timely manner.
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Pay and Benefits: 

The target base salary range for this position is $150,537 - $181,683 annually.  The full base salary range is $134,964 - $211,098 annually.
