Position: Senior DB2 z/OS Systems Programmer (Remote)

Location: 100% Remote

Duration : 18+ months

Job Description: 

  • Must have experience with DB2 V13 upgrade and can speak in more detail on DSNZPARM recommendations and software deployment and backout considerations.
  • 10+ years of hands-on Db2 for z/OS engineering, administration, architecture, performance tuning, recovery, and production support experience in large enterprise Sysplex and data sharing environments
  • Expert knowledge of Db2 for z/OS subsystem internals, including IRLM, DDF, EDM pools, buffer pools, logging, utilities, packages, plans, WLM interactions, and z/OS dependencies
  • Demonstrated experience configuring, governing, and tuning DSNZPARM settings across development, test, and production environments
  • Proven experience supporting Db2 data sharing groups, including group buffer pool strategy, coupling facility interactions, member balancing, lock contention analysis, restart/recovery behavior, high availability, and disaster recovery procedures
  • Strong understanding of Db2 security architecture, including RACF integration, authentication, authorization, trusted contexts, privileged access controls, SECADM/SYSADM separation, audit traces, encryption, certificates, and secure remote connectivity
  • Experience performing Db2 software lifecycle management, including SMP/E, PTF evaluation, RSU planning, APAR analysis, ++HOLDDATA review, vendor advisory assessment, maintenance windows, fallback planning, and deployment governance
  • Ability to assess vulnerability findings, CVE applicability, security bulletins, patch exposure, configuration drift, exploitability, compensating controls, remediation complexity, and implementation risk for Db2 for z/OS environments
  • Experience identifying software risk exposures, attack surface, control gaps, operational weaknesses, and remediation opportunities across Db2, z/OS, RACF, DDF, utilities, middleware interfaces, certificates, and automation tooling
  • Under concepts of Db2 performance, locking, logging, DDF connectivity, utility execution, package access paths, subsystem contention, and production incident patterns
  • Knowledge of z/OS functions relevant to Db2 operations, including APF, link list, LPA, RACF, WLM, SMS-managed datasets, JES, TCP/IP, and certificate management
  • Experience developing internal tools and operational automation using JCL, REXX, Python, USS, Git, Jenkins, z/OSMF, Zowe APIs, or related mainframe DevOps tooling
  • Ability to apply AI principles to Db2 operational telemetry, anomaly detection, trend forecasting, vulnerability correlation, risk prioritization, evidence summarization, and decision support
  • Ability to partner with application, security, RACF, middleware, storage, and z/OS teams to define practical remediation strategies, validation evidence, configuration standards, and production readiness criteria
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including production of technical documentation, runbooks, implementation plans, validation evidence, technical risk summaries, governance materials, and executive-ready remediation recommendations
