Remote Technical Product Manager information

What is a remote technical product manager?

A Remote Technical Product Manager is a professional who oversees the development and success of technology-driven products while working from a location outside the traditional office environment. They are responsible for defining product requirements, collaborating with engineering and cross-functional teams, and ensuring that the product meets user needs and business goals. Their technical background enables them to bridge the gap between technical teams and stakeholders, facilitating clear communication and efficient decision-making. Remote Technical Product Managers leverage digital tools to coordinate work, manage timelines, and keep everyone aligned, regardless of where team members are located.

How do remote technical product managers effectively coordinate with cross-functional teams across different time zones?

Remote Technical Product Managers often work with globally distributed teams, which can present challenges in communication and collaboration. To address this, they typically leverage a combination of asynchronous tools (like project management software and shared documentation) and schedule regular check-ins that accommodate overlapping work hours. Building strong relationships through clear communication and setting expectations around availability helps ensure that project milestones are met. Additionally, successful remote PMs proactively share updates and encourage feedback to keep everyone aligned, despite geographic separation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote technical product manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Technical Product Manager, you need a solid background in product management, technical proficiency (often with a degree in computer science or related field), and experience guiding products from concept to launch. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Trello, Agile methodologies, and sometimes certifications like Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) are commonly expected. Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate effectively with distributed teams and stakeholders. These abilities ensure seamless project execution, alignment with business goals, and successful product outcomes in a remote work environment.

Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Product Manager toย contribute toย product strategy for Armada's federal and defense-facing solutions. You will engage directly with defense and government customers to understand mission and warfighterย edgeย compute requirements, translate them into clear product requirements, and work cross-functionally to close capability gaps across Armada's hardware, platform, monitoring, and ISV application layers.ย

This is a hands-on role for aย self-startingย product managerย operatingย at the intersection of Armada's product organization and the defense and intelligence community.ย You willย determineย your own methods andย approach onย new assignments, exercise judgment across ambiguous and sensitive requirements, andย frequentlyย advise engineering, field, capture, and go-to-market partners on product matters within the federal domain.ย You'llย also help build and champion standardization across the team -ย establishingย consistent processes, frameworks, and best practices that scale with our growth.ย

In this role, you will define and deliver platform capabilities that meet the unique requirements of defense, intelligence, and federal mission environments, such as disconnected operations, classified workloads, zero-trust security, and compliance with government standards, while maintaining alignment with Armada's commercial platform roadmap.ย

Location & Clearance

  • Location: This role is remote within the United States, with periodic travel to customer sites and Armada officesย
  • Clearance: An active Top Secret (TS) or Secret clearance is strongly preferred; candidates must be eligible to obtain andย maintainย a U.S. security clearanceย
  • Team: This role sits on Armada's Federal PM team and reports to the Federal product leadย

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)

Customer Requirements & Mission Understandingย

  • Engage directly with defense and government customers to understandย edgeย compute requirements for warfighter and other mission-critical scenariosย
  • Translate complex defense customer problems into clear, specific, and actionable product requirementsย
  • Identifyย and prioritize gaps in Armada's solution set - spanning hardware, platform, monitoring, and ISV applications - needed to address defense and federal use casesย

Product Ownership & Deliveryย

  • Contribute to the roadmap for Armada's federal product area, from requirements definition through development, QA, and launchย
  • Partner with engineering to scope and deliver solutions that meet defense-grade requirements for security, reliability, and mission assuranceย
  • Determineย methods and approach on new initiatives, exercising independent judgment given ambiguous, sensitive, or classified requirementsย

Customer & Stakeholder Engagementย

  • Serve as the primary product interface between defense customers, field teams, and engineeringย
  • Advise sales, capture, and field teams on technical and product strategy for federal opportunitiesย
  • Support proposal development, technical evaluations, and customer briefings as the product subject matter expert for federal solutionsย
  • Translate mission requirements from DoD, IC, and federal agencies into scalable platform capabilitiesย
  • Balance classified and unclassified customer needs whileย maintainingย a unified core product architectureย
  • Drive secure edge-to-cloud capabilities supporting disconnected, intermittent, and denied environmentsย
  • Partner with security and compliance teams on DoD security requirements, NIST, RMF, and zero-trust architectures, including classified and air-gapped deployment modelsย
  • Guide product features needed to support ATO processes and government compliance requirementsย

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience,ย Master'sย and 6+ years, or PhD and 3+ years, with 5+ years in product management for infrastructure, platform, cloud, or defense-relatedย computeย productsย
  • Active U.S. security clearance at the Secret levelย requiredย
  • Experience in the defense industry, particularly around compute used in warfighter or other mission-critical scenariosย
  • Demonstrated ability to understand defense customer problems and translate them into specific, actionable product requirementsย
  • Strong background in distributed systems, cloud platforms, edge computing, or infrastructure softwareย
  • Demonstrated ability toย determineย methods on new assignments and exercise judgment across variable, ambiguous factorsย
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with technical, defense, and business audiencesย
  • Direct experience supporting U.S. Government or Defense customers (DoD, IC, or federal agencies)ย
  • Strong understanding of mission environments, classified systems, and defense operational constraintsย
  • Familiarity with secure system design, zero-trust principles, and classified deployment modelsย
  • U.S. Citizenshipย requiredย

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI clearanceย
  • Experience with ISV application ecosystems within defense or government environmentsย
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, containers, and cloud-native technologiesย
  • Experience delivering hardware-integrated or edge computing products for defense, industrial, or public sector customersย
  • Experience with edge computing platforms in defense or austere environmentsย
  • Experience supporting ATO processes or RMF documentationย
  • Prior military, intelligence, or government service experienceย

Citizenship Requirementsย

Forย selectย roles, due to the nature of our clientele and the technologies involved, there may be specific nationality or citizenshipย indicatedย in the required qualifications section.ย These roles may involve access to sensitive information that is subject to export control regulations or other legal restrictions.ย In such cases, employment offers will be contingent upon your ability toย comply withย these requirements.ย
