Senior Technical Designer in Animation (TDiA)
Location: United States (Remote)

Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Technical Designer in Animation (TDiA) to design and implement animation systems that support complex character movement and gameplay behaviors. This role serves as a crucial bridge between Animation and Engineering, translating creative intent into technically sound implementations. The ideal candidate will be a systems thinker focused on building and scaling animation frameworks for a large-scale production environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement animation systems, including locomotion, ability flows, and interaction behaviors.
  • Develop and maintain animation state machines, blend trees, and runtime animation solutions.
  • Partner with animation, design, and programming teams to troubleshoot in-game animation issues.
  • Contribute to the design and quality of animation systems across various character-based features.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize animation pipelines, tooling, and workflows.
  • Work within and help evolve existing frameworks such as proxy tables and gameplay ability systems.
Required Qualifications
Industry Experience:
  • Proven experience in AAA game development.
  • Experience working on large teams with established pipelines.

Animation & Technical Foundations:
  • Strong understanding of realistic and stylized character movement.
  • Experience building or contributing to locomotion systems.
  • Familiarity with animation system design, including state machines, blend trees, and runtime logic.

Engine & Tools Experience:
  • Experience implementing animation in Unreal Engine, including Animation Blueprints and state machines.
  • Familiarity with modern animation tools such as Maya and MotionBuilder.

Gameplay Animation Systems:
  • Experience implementing animation for abilities, combat systems, traversal, and character interactions.
  • Understanding of systems like Gameplay Ability Systems, Motion Matching, and Root Motion.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Unreal Engine's Control Rig.
  • Exposure to cloth, physics, or character setup.
  • Experience working with existing animation frameworks like proxy assets or chooser tables.
Compensation
The pay range for this position is $60.00 to $70.00 per hour. Please note that this is a contract role and benefits may not be provided.
