Job description

Physical Engineer โ€“ Substations (Dataย Center)

Salary Range:ย $80Kย - $100Kย / yearย 
Based on the Denver, Colorado labor market.ย 

Location:ย Lakewood, CO (local/in-office) or full-time remote candidates.ย 

Role Overview:ย ย 

As a Physical Engineer in theย Dataย Centerย group, you willย be responsible forย performing engineering design and analysis under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer. You will support client projects and provide quality deliverables that are on time and within the defined budget.ย 

Essential Responsibilities:ย 

What you will do:ย 

  • Design Engineer:ย Your primary responsibility will beย working under a lead engineer to perform substation design tasks. Client interaction will be limited at first but will grow as with your abilities. Delegating and checking drafting to designers as needed.ย 

  • QA / QC work:ย Implement the NEI Quality Assurance Plan.ย Checkย the work of designers, drafters, and engineers for overall quality and accuracy.ย 

Additional Responsibilities:ย 

  • Work closely with Team Leads, Phase Mangers (project lead engineers)ย and Designersย on projects within the department.ย 

  • Performย the detailedย physical engineering for all aspects of electric power substations including multi-disciplinary coordination.ย 

  • Typical design products might include general arrangements, elevation views, site layout, bill of materials, equipment specifications, bus sizing for ampacity and structural requirements, grounding plan and details, and conduit plan and details.ย 

  • Review submittals for conformance with (owner, client) specifications and design to meet all required codes.ย 

  • Prepareย bus ampacity calcs and conduit fill calcsย for physical designs.ย 

  • Manage deliverables and deadlines to ensure they are submitted on time for both internal QA/QC deadlines and external deadlines toย client.ย 

  • Checkย the work of designers, drafters, and engineers for overall quality and accuracy.ย 

  • Perform occasional field inspection and construction supervision services when needed.ย 

  • Ensure that client requirements, specifications, and expectations areย being met.ย 

  • Maintain a strong understanding and comprehension of applicable Codes and Standards.ย 

  • Attend conferences, training workshops, seminars, undergraduate, and graduate classes asย appropriate forย advancement and asย requiredย toย maintainย quality of work.ย 

  • Complete safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines.ย 

Requirements:ย 

  • Education:ย Bachelorโ€™sย degree with a focus inย Civilย / Structural, Mechanicalย orย Electricalย from an accredited institutionย is preferredย (Associates acceptable pending relevant experience).ย 

  • Experience:ย 2+ years of relevant engineering or field experience.ย 

  • Licensure:ย FE and pursuing the PEย at a later dateย is preferredย ย 

  • Skills:ย Proficiencyย with AutoCAD,ย MathCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite. Effective written and oral communication skills. Good interpersonal skills.ย 

Note:ย Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.ย 

Work Environmentย 

  • Hybrid or fully remote work model depending on location and project needsย ย 

  • Travel typically ranges from 15โ€“25% and varies by projectย ย 

  • Combination of office-based work and periodic field engagementย ย
