Job description

Job Title: Structural Engineer โ€“ Heavy Industrial / Midstream Projects
Job Description

This role focuses on structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, and foundation systems for heavy industrial and midstream projects such as gas plants, pipelines, and compression facilities. You will contribute to practical, buildable designs across the full project lifecycle, working closely with a collaborative team and gaining significant ownership and visibility on a variety of real-world projects.

Responsibilities

  • Create foundational and steel structural designs for heavy industrial and midstream facilities, working with guidance from senior engineers when needed.
  • Review engineering and fabrication drawings and make detailed edits to ensure designs are constructible and align with project requirements.
  • Apply a solid understanding of different foundation types and steel systems commonly used in industrial projects.
  • Use standard engineering codes, including ACI, ASCE, AISC, and API, to develop and validate structural designs.
  • Review shop drawings for steel and reinforcing (rebar) to confirm conformance with approved design documents.
  • Build and check structural models using tools such as RISA, STAAD.Pro, MathCAD, LPILE, or similar software to perform structural analysis.
  • Assist in the structural analysis of pipe racks, foundations, and equipment supports in coordination with the broader project team.
  • Summarize engineering findings clearly and provide straightforward, practical recommendations to project stakeholders.
  • Support bid preparation activities and participate in the evaluation and selection of contractors and vendors.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally through notes, sketches, calculations, and emails to document and convey design intent.
  • Provide support for field coordination, including responding to requests for information (RFIs) and addressing construction-related questions.
  • Collaborate with EPC and field engineering teams in industrial settings to ensure alignment between design and construction.
  • Manage multiple priorities across concurrent projects and deliver high-quality work within a fast-paced environment.
  • Contribute to other engineering and project-related tasks as needed to support successful delivery of midstream and industrial projects.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Masterโ€™s degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain a PE within 6 months.
  • 6โ€“15 years of structural engineering experience in oil and gas, power generation, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, and foundation systems.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD.Pro, RISA, or comparable tools.
  • Practical experience applying ASCE, AISC, API, and ACI codes to industrial structural designs.
  • Experience with seismic and wind load design for industrial structures and facilities.
  • Background in EPC or field engineering work in industrial environments.
  • Strong communication skills, including clear written documentation, technical reporting, and design notes.
  • Ability to create and interpret technical sketches and drawings for use by design and construction teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling tools such as Revit, Tekla, or Navisworks.
  • Experience reviewing and coordinating shop drawings for steel and rebar.
  • Comfort working on midstream projects including gas plants, pipelines, and compression facilities rather than commercial buildings.
  • Interest in practical, real-world design with a focus on constructability and field conditions.
  • Ability to summarize complex engineering analyses into clear, actionable recommendations for project stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting bids and participating in contractor and vendor selection processes.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative environment with direct access to leadership and greater ownership of project work.
  • Adaptability to a less corporate, more hands-on team culture.
Work Environment

You will work in a collaborative, hands-on engineering environment focused on midstream and heavy industrial projects, with exposure to the full project lifecycle from design through construction. The team uses structural analysis tools such as STAAD.Pro, RISA, MathCAD, and LPILE, along with industry-standard codes including ASCE, AISC, API, and ACI, and may incorporate 3D modeling tools like Revit, Tekla, and Navisworks. The schedule is flexible and includes a 9/80 work arrangement, offering extended weekends and summer Fridays. After approximately six months, remote work days are available, providing additional flexibility while maintaining strong team collaboration and project engagement.
