What are Remote Solar Originators?

Remote Solar Originators are professionals who work from a remote location to identify, develop, and secure new solar energy projects. They are responsible for sourcing potential project sites, negotiating with landowners, evaluating project feasibility, and initiating the permitting process. These specialists play a key role in expanding a solar company's portfolio by identifying attractive opportunities and facilitating project development, often using digital tools to conduct market research and communicate with stakeholders. Their work helps accelerate the transition to renewable energy by bringing new solar projects to fruition.

How does a Remote Solar Originator typically collaborate with project developers and engineering teams while working offsite?

As a Remote Solar Originator, you will frequently coordinate with project developers, engineers, and financial analysts through virtual meetings, shared project management platforms, and cloud-based documentation tools. Effective communication is crucial, as you are responsible for identifying and qualifying new solar projects, ensuring all stakeholders stay updated on site assessments, permitting progress, and client requirements. While not physically present, you’ll play a central role in aligning project objectives and timelines, often acting as a liaison between sales, technical, and development teams. This collaborative approach helps streamline workflows and ensures successful project origination even in a remote setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Solar Originator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Solar Originator, you need a solid understanding of solar energy markets, project development, and sales, typically supported by experience in renewable energy or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software, project management tools, and solar design platforms like Helioscope or Aurora Solar is often required. Strong negotiation, communication, and self-motivation are valuable soft skills, especially for building client relationships and working independently. These skills ensure effective origination of viable solar projects, successful client engagement, and efficient remote project management.

Job description

Company Overview

We are Sunbum Solar & Roofing an established company proudly serving customers for 21 years. We provide premier, tier-1 solar system installations, handling everything from engineering, structural design, and permitting to seamless solar system installation and utility interconnection. We are looking to expand our footprint by partnering with motivated, high-performing independent Sales Dealers and Independent Sales Organizations (ISOs).  If you are an experienced closer who wants to focus entirely on originations and client relations while a world-class EPC handles the backend operations, engineering, and logistics, this partnership is designed for you.

Job Description / Partnership Scope

As an Independent Sales Dealer, you will act as a frontline clean energy consultant selling all over Virginia and Maryland. You will manage your own lead generation and pipeline development, utilizing our industry-leading software tools to deliver highly accurate energy savings proposals to commercial and residential property owners.

Key Responsibilities

Consultative Selling: Conduct ethical, compliant, and professional sales presentations to property owners.

Project Qualification: Leverage our enterprise solar design platforms to perform detailed shading analyses, calculate structural orientation, and project accurate utility bill offsets.

Onboarding & Document Capture: Collect and submit pristine project files, including customer utility bills, site assessment photos, and standard installation agreements via our portal.

Ethical Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with consumer protection laws, local solicitation guidelines, and DNC registries.

What We Provide (Operational Support & Tooling)

We remove the friction of the solar fulfillment process so you can focus entirely on maximizing volume:

Advanced Tech Stack: Direct access to precision solar design tools for rapid layout modeling and accurate system production reporting.

Instant Financing Integrations: Seamless access to premium third-party solar lenders, such as Palmetto Lightreach and Climate First Bank, featuring rapid consumer credit pre-checks and instantaneous loan and Lease/ PPA document generation.

Elite EPC Execution: We manage the heavy lifting—from remote shading validation and structural engineer stamps to physical construction and final utility PTO coordination.

Compensation & Milestone Structure

This is a 100% commission-based contract role featuring one of the lowest Redline baseline pricing models and structured payouts. To perfectly align incentives with project milestones, commissions are paid out aggressively across two clear stages:

Milestone 1 (80% of Net Commission): Disbursed upon substantial completion of the physical installation.

Milestone 2 (20% of Net Commission): Disbursed immediately upon the utility issuing the official Permission to Operate (PTO).

(Note: Standard project installation agreements are subject to cancellation and clawback policies if a site proves structurally or environmentally unfeasible prior to mechanical build.)

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: Proven track record in residential or commercial solar sales, home improvement closing, or direct independent contract sales.

Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with modern CRM pipelines and solar software environments (e.g., Aurora, Solargraf, or similar design platforms) is highly preferred.

Self-Starter Mentality: Operates with high autonomy, exceptional professional ethics, and excellent client communication skills.

• Must possess an active independent sales business entity, or operate cleanly as an independent contractor.

Schedule & Location

Job Type: Contract / Commission-Only

Location: Remote / Flexible Territory Assignments

Schedule: Choose your own hours; unlimited earning potential.

How to Apply

If you are ready to scale your solar sales volume with an elite installation partner backing your pipeline, submit your resume or sales organization details through Indeed today. A partnership representative will reach out to outline our current baseline redlines and contract addendums.
