To thrive as a Remote Senior Attorney, you need extensive legal expertise, strong analytical abilities, and a Juris Doctor (JD) degree with bar admission in relevant jurisdictions. Proficiency with legal research databases (like Westlaw or LexisNexis), secure document management systems, and video conferencing tools is essential. These skills ensure effective legal counsel, client trust, and seamless collaboration across distributed teams.

What is a Remote Senior Attorney?

A Remote Senior Attorney is an experienced legal professional who provides legal counsel, drafts documents, and represents clients or organizations, all while working remotely rather than in a traditional office setting. They often have several years of legal experience and may specialize in areas such as corporate law, litigation, compliance, or intellectual property. Working remotely allows them to serve clients from various locations using digital communication and collaboration tools. This role requires strong self-management skills, effective communication, and the ability to handle complex legal matters independently. Many organizations hire remote senior attorneys to access top legal talent regardless of geographic location.

The roles overlap in credentials and industry usage, but their primary responsibilities differ based on the scope of legal work within organizations.

How does a Remote Senior Attorney effectively manage collaboration with clients and legal teams across different time zones?

Remote Senior Attorneys often work with clients and colleagues located in various geographic regions, which can pose scheduling and communication challenges. Success in this role relies on leveraging digital collaboration tools, setting clear expectations for response times, and proactively scheduling meetings that accommodate multiple time zones. Strong organizational skills and transparent communication are essential to ensure projects move forward smoothly and clients receive timely updates. Many firms also use secure document management platforms to facilitate seamless file sharing and real-time editing, helping remote attorneys stay aligned with their teams.

Reports to: Managing Partner / Firm Leadership
Type: Partner-Level | High-Autonomy | Entrepreneurial Role
Sector: Business Law / Legal Services

About The Company

The firm is a fully remote, cloud-based national legal platform serving clients across 15 markets and 20+ business law practice areas. Built for experienced attorneys who want more control, more flexibility, and more upside, the firm gives partners the infrastructure of a sophisticated practice without the politics, billable hour mandates, or heavy institutional overhead of a traditional law firm.

The Opportunity

This is a high-autonomy partner opportunity for a senior attorney with a proven portable book of business who is ready to keep significantly more of what they earn.

You'll continue building your practice on your terms - setting your own rates, managing your own client relationships, and keeping up to 80% of your billings. The firm provides the platform, administrative support, national marketing, and collaborative partner network. You bring the clients, the expertise, and the entrepreneurial drive.

No assigned workflow. No mandatory billable hours. No giving away two-thirds of your production to the house.

What You'll Do

Practice Ownership

  • Maintain and grow your existing portable book of business
  • Set your own billing rates and manage client relationships independently
  • Operate with full ownership over your practice area, client strategy, and growth plan
  • Deliver sophisticated legal counsel within your core area of expertise

Client Development & Growth

  • Originate, retain, and expand client relationships
  • Leverage the firm's national platform, admin support, and marketing resources
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities across 20+ business law practice areas
  • Build a sustainable, profitable practice without relying on assigned work

Collaboration Across Markets

  • Partner with attorneys across 15 markets to cross-refer work and serve clients more fully
  • Participate in monthly firm-wide and local market calls
  • Contribute to a collaborative, entrepreneurial partner culture
  • Support firm growth through shared relationships, insights, and referrals

Business Law Practice Areas

Relevant practices may include:

  • Corporate
  • M&A
  • Finance
  • Real Estate
  • Litigation
  • Tax
  • Employment
  • Intellectual Property
  • Other business-focused legal services

You'd Be a Great Fit If You Have:

  • 8+ years of experience practicing at a sophisticated business law firm
  • A portable book of business of $300K+
  • An active bar license in the state or states where you provide legal services
  • A self-sufficient practice and the ability to operate without assigned work
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and desire to own your platform
  • Strong client relationship management skills
  • Experience in corporate, M&A, finance, real estate, litigation, tax, employment, IP, or a related business law practice
  • The financial runway and business plan to grow independently
  • A desire for more autonomy, flexibility, and direct upside

Bonus Points For:

  • Experience as a current or former partner, counsel, or senior attorney with client origination responsibility
  • A multi-state or nationally portable client base
  • Cross-referral potential across multiple practice areas
  • Prior experience building or scaling an independent practice
  • Military or veteran background with proven private-sector legal success

Why Join Us

  • Keep up to 80% of your billings
  • Set your own rates and build your practice your way
  • Eliminate traditional firm politics, overhead, and billable hour mandates
  • Access a national platform spanning 15 markets and 20+ practice areas
  • Collaborate with other entrepreneurial partners without sacrificing independence
  • Get infrastructure, admin support, and marketing resources without giving up control
