Job description

Independent Expenditure Political Manager (Part-Time)
Compensation: $44 - $50/hour (equivalent to $91,000 - $104,000/year full time), estimated 20-25 hrs/week for the duration of the engagement (roughly $3,800 - $5,400/month).
Location: Remote
Travel Requirements: 0 - 10%
Reports To: President, 314 Action Fund Super PAC
Timeline: ASAP through November 15, 2026 (~60-day engagement)
Position Summary
314 Action is the nation's largest organization dedicated to electing Democratic scientists and STEM leaders who will champion facts, fight extremism, and deliver progressive change-from the U.S. Senate to local school boards.
314 Action is seeking a part-time Independent Expenditure Political Manager to manage the operational execution of a ~$5 million Independent Expenditure program this fall - a 60-day sprint covering 20+ mail pieces plus digital and other paid communications. This is primarily an execution and project-management role with this person making sure it moves through approvals, vendors, and payments on time and without dropped balls. You'll also backstop our President on donor materials and press logistics. This is a great opportunity for an up-and-coming staffer to see a robust paid media operation first hand and manage a multi-million dollar budget.
This is also a front-row seat to one of the most competitive fights for the House majority this cycle - our IE program is in the field for five toss-up House races, plus a broader slate of competitive contests nationwide. If you're looking to cut your teeth in political operations and set yourself up to manage a campaign or work at a consulting firm, this is a fast, concentrated way to build the skills and relationships that get you there: hands-on ownership of a multi-million dollar paid media operation (a level of budget responsibility rare at this career stage), direct working relationships with mail houses, media buyers, and compliance/legal teams you'll work with again throughout a campaign or consulting career, and a direct line to 314 Action's President and senior political leadership.
Responsibilities Include
  • Own the day-to-day approval workflow for all IE communications (mail, digital, and other paid media) moving through legal, compliance, and messaging review - currently 20+ mail pieces and a half dozen TV/digital ads in flight
  • Maintain a master production/approval tracker across all vendors and pieces, flagging bottlenecks and deadline risk in real time
  • Manage cashflow and disbursements: process and route vendor invoices, track authorizations, and ensure bills are paid on time
  • Serve as day-to-day point of contact for mail houses, media buyers, and other vendors on production logistics, specs, and deadlines
  • Coordinate with the compliance team and treasurer to keep IE-related disbursements and filings on schedule
  • Backstop our President on donor materials - pull together race assessments, data, and briefing documents he uses in donor pitches
  • Coordinate release logistics for program/investment announcements and triage incoming press inquiries - routing to the right person or sending pre-approved statements
  • Track programmatic spend against budget and flag variances
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-4 years of experience in campaign operations, compliance, agency traffic/production, or political consulting; IE or PAC program experience a plus
  • Strong project management skills - comfortable owning a tracker across 20+ concurrent deliverables and multiple reviewers
  • Experience handling vendor invoices and payments, with comfort tracking spend against a budget
  • High attention to detail and follow-through; nothing falls through the cracks on your watch
  • Strong writing skills - comfortable turning talking points and data into donor briefing materials or press statements
  • Ability to work independently under tight deadlines in a compressed, high-stakes sprint
  • Comfortable working remotely on a part-time, flexible schedule

About 314 Action
314 Action is the nation's leading organization dedicated to recruiting, training, and electing scientists, doctors, engineers, and other STEM professionals to public office. Since 2016, we've helped elect over 400 pro-science candidates-from U.S. Senators and Members of Congress to state legislators and local officials-supported by a grassroots network of more than 500,000 donors and six million science-aligned activists.
We believe evidence and facts should guide public policy. STEM leaders who are problem solvers bring critical expertise to some of the biggest challenges of our time-from climate change and public health to technological innovation and misinformation. Our work combines hands-on candidate training, strategic advising, and innovative fundraising strategies to help these leaders launch and win competitive races.
314 Action has raised over $60 million to support STEM candidates, helping elect three U.S. Senators, more than 15 Members of Congress, and hundreds of down-ballot officials. In 2024, we elected seven new STEM Members of Congress, including three of the six House seats flipped by Democrats nationwide.
In 2025, we launched Guardians of Public Health, a $25 million initiative to elect 100 doctors and public health experts to state legislatures and higher office by 2030-ensuring science has a seat at the policymaking table.
Benefits (upon meeting eligibility criteria):
This is a temporary, part-time engagement and is not eligible for 314 Action's full employee benefits package. One exception:
  • Retirement: 401(k) with up to 6% employer match, per the standard plan waiting period - eligibility may begin partway through the engagement rather than on day one.
