The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA), Division of Enterprise Services, has an opening for an IS Technical Services Consultant/Admin position to serve as the department's Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
This position may be headquartered in either Madison or King, WI. The Madison headquarter location is the Wisconsin Revenue Building . The King headquarter location is the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King .
These positions work under a flexible hybrid work schedule that allows for up to 90% remote work.

Position Summary
The CISO advises agency personnel on IT security related issues, develops security policies and procedures, and is responsible for ensuring WDVA IT initiatives and operations conform to established security policies and standards.
This incumbent advises staff in designing and implementing security software tools and processes that support security policies, acts as the agency's technical expert for security problem resolution, and is responsible for analyzing and determining issues, solutions and alternatives.
This position also serves as a liaison to the Department of Administration on enterprise information security issues and represents WDVA on teams providing input and direction for policies, standards and strategies.

Salary Information
The starting salary for this position is between $55.00 - $59.00 an hour ($114,400 - $122,720 annually). The IS Technical Services Consultant/Admin classification is in pay schedule and range 07-32.
Salaries are dependent on candidate qualifications. Compensation for current State employees may vary and will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Job Details
This position is eligible to work up to 90% remotely.
Remote work is to be performed in the State of Wisconsin. High speed internet access is a requirement of remote work. Remote work options are subject to change based on business needs.
Due to the nature of this position's duties, candidates will be subject to a criminal background check prior to appointment.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of application. This position may occasionally require work schedule changes to resolve problems affecting WDVA operations which includes working outside of standard business hours.
A twelve-month probationary period may be required.
Employment at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified candidates will have experience with:
- Identifying and managing information security risks, vulnerabilities, threats and incidents; and
- Configuring and administering security platforms for an organization; and
- Creating and monitoring security policies, procedures and controls; and
- Conducting security audits of systems and major systems modifications to ensure that appropriate and adequate security measures have been implemented.
Well qualified candidates will also have experience with:
- Information security management best practices and frameworks; or
- Driving organization-wide strategic and operational cybersecurity vision, strategy, policy or compliance; or
- Researching and analyzing new and emerging technologies and recommending changes and opportunities for improvement; or
- All aspects of information technology planning, development and implementation (systems administration, cloud-based infrastructure system, end user applications, remote and hybrid working environment, telecommunications, database administration, encryption, etc.).
