As the Director of the SOC, you will lead a mission-critical cybersecurity organization responsible for 24x7x365 threat detection, monitoring, and incident response across MassMutual's global environment. You will shape the strategic direction of the SOC, drive operational excellence, and ensure our teams, technology, and processes work seamlessly to protect MassMutual's data, systems, employees, and customers. Your work directly influences MassMutual's ability to prevent, detect, and respond to cyber threats in real time, ensuring the resiliency and security of the enterprise.
The Team
You will lead a globally distributed SOC organization operating in a follow-the-sun model with teams across the US, India, and Romania. Team members share MassMutual competencies of accountability, agility, continuous learning, communication excellence, leadership traits, resilience, and self-awareness. Together, the team is motivated by solving complex cybersecurity problems and advancing a modern, high-performing SOC.

  • Review SOC metrics, staffing needs, and budget requirements with security leadership.

Drive Threat Detection & Incident Response Excellence
  • Lead the response to cybersecurity events and critical incidents, ensuring appropriate analysis, prioritization, escalation, and communications.
  • Ensure structured and consistent incident handling processes across all SOC tiers.

Strengthen Enterprise Communication & Decision Support
  • Act as the escalation and communication liaison with senior leadership and other critical stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely, risk-aware decisions and clear communication of incident impacts and recommended actions.

Advance Detection Engineering & Automation Capabilities
  • Partner with Detection Engineering and Security Platforms to optimize SIEM/SOAR alerting logic, tuning, and playbook development.
  • Expand automation to improve analyst efficiency and response consistency.

Develop & Inspire a High-Performing Global Team
  • Guide analyst growth through training, mentorship, certifications, and hands-on exercises.
  • Foster a culture rooted in MassMutual values of inclusion, innovation, and continuous improvement.

The Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in cybersecurity, including SOC leadership, threat detection, and incident response.
  • 2+ years of experience leading large, globally distributed technical teams in high-pressure operational environments.
  • Flexibility to support off hours and weekends on call

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience running or modernizing enterprise-scale SOC operations within financial services.
  • Expertise with SIEM, SOAR, EDR, cloud-native security tools, and emerging GenAI-enabled SOC capabilities.
  • Deep technical understanding of cyber threats, attacker TTPs, malware analysis, and security detection technologies.
  • Experience collaborating with audit, compliance, risk management, and external regulatory partners.
  • Demonstrated success developing cybersecurity playbooks, workflows, and readiness exercises.
  • Strong executive-level communication and reporting skills.
