Job description

Overview

We're looking for an AI Engineer fresh out of school or early in your career who's excited to ship real AI-powered features. You'll integrate LLM/AI APIs, build agent workflows, and deliver end-to-end solutions on AWS—starting with smaller features and growing into larger system ownership. If you've built side projects, hackathon winners, or coursework that impresses, and you're ready to learn fast and own outcomes, let's talk.

About Sembix

Sembix is revolutionizing system modernization through AI-driven solutions. We leverage innovative AI technologies to transform and rewrite applications into modern, cloud-native systems. Our solutions help businesses unlock their full potential in the cloud, driving efficiency and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Own small-to-medium features and components end-to-end—from design through production—with mentorship
  • Build AI-integrated software: wire up LLM/AI APIs, design simple agent workflows, and ship AI features with reliability and guardrails
  • Learn and apply cloud-native practices on AWS; work with compute, storage, and serverless services under guidance
  • Contribute across frontend, backend, or data layers; improve user experience and system performance
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, ask great questions, and absorb engineering standards and best practices
  • Connect your work to business outcomes—how does this feature help users, reduce costs, or improve experience?

Required Qualifications

  • Recent graduate or early-career engineer (0–2 years professional experience)
  • Shipped at least one project end-to-end: coursework, hackathon, side project, or internship work that you can talk through
  • Hands-on coding experience in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar (backend or full-stack preferred)
  • Familiarity with AI/LLM concepts: prompt engineering, API integration, or basic agentic workflows (LangChain, OpenAI API, or similar)
  • Comfort learning AWS basics and infrastructure-as-code concepts on the job
  • Strong curiosity and willingness to learn from senior engineers and feedback

Preferred Skills

  • Side projects or hackathons involving AI/LLM integration or chatbots
  • AWS hands-on experience (even free tier projects count)
  • Full-stack experience: built both frontend and backend components
  • Open source contributions or published code on GitHub
  • A portfolio or personal site showcasing your projects is a big plus
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and iteration
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, or containerization basics

Success Profile

  • Eager learner: You ask great questions, absorb feedback, and grow fast
  • Builder mindset: You ship projects, even small ones, and take pride in quality
  • AI-curious: You're excited about LLMs and AI, and you experiment with new tools
  • Collaborative: You work well with senior engineers and thrive on mentorship
  • Outcome-focused: You think about how your code impacts users and the business
  • Owner in training: You take ownership of your features and drive them to completion

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base Salary: $60K to $75K
  • Incentive Compensation: Up to 20% of base salary, tied to feature delivery
  • 401(k) Match: 100% match up to 4% of base salary, fully vested immediately
  • Paid Time Off: 20 days per year
  • Medical: 100% employee coverage, 50% for family
  • Holidays: 10 paid holidays annually

Why Join Sembix

  • Be part of a mission-driven team shaping the future of education and public service
  • Work on high-impact projects that simplify operations and improve outcomes
  • Flexible, remote-friendly work culture with a focus on results
  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Opportunity to grow into leadership roles as we scale our impact
