Company: How To MANAGE a Small Law Firm (HTM)
Location: 100% Remote (Must reside in AZ, CO, FL, GA, IL, MD, MI, NC, NJ, NY, PA, TX, VA, or WA)
Department: Executive Leadership
Job Type: Full-Time | W-2 Employee
Compensation: $110,000 Base Salary + Performance Compensation | $182,000+ On-Target Earnings
Turn Vision Into Execution. Build Businesses That Scale.
Vision without execution is just a plan.
At How To MANAGE a Small Law Firm (HTM), our Fractional COOs help law firm owners turn ambitious goals into disciplined execution. As the operational partner to a portfolio of growing firms, you'll build the systems, accountability, and leadership needed to transform vision into measurable business results.
This is not consulting.
This is not a 1099 opportunity.
This is a full-time, W-2 position where you'll serve as the Fractional COO for up to 30 law firms, helping owners build businesses that operate with consistency, accountability, and profitability-while HTM provides the clients, systems, and support.
If you've successfully built operational infrastructure, scaled businesses, and thrive on turning strategy into execution, this may be the next chapter in your career.
About HTM
How To MANAGE a Small Law Firm is the nation's leading provider of Fractional C-Suite services for solo and small law firms.
Recognized on the Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Companies list every year since 2013, HTM partners with entrepreneurial law firm owners who have built successful practices but need experienced operational leadership to build businesses that can scale.
Our clients don't need another consultant.
They need an operator who helps make the business work.
What You'll Do
As a Fractional COO, you'll help business owners turn vision into daily operating reality by:
  • Building scalable operational systems and workflows
  • Designing KPI dashboards and accountability rhythms
  • Improving operational efficiency and profitability
  • Identifying and eliminating bottlenecks
  • Strengthening hiring, delegation, and organizational structure
  • Translating strategic goals into weekly execution plans
  • Coaching owners to lead with data instead of instinct
  • Helping businesses become less owner-dependent and more scalable

This is hands-on operational leadership.
You won't simply recommend improvements-you'll work alongside owners to implement them, measure progress, and create lasting operational change.
Who We're Looking For
This role is designed for experienced operators who have successfully led and scaled entrepreneurial businesses.
Typical backgrounds include:
  • COO
  • VP of Operations
  • Head of Operations
  • Director of Operations
  • General Manager
  • EOS Integrator
  • Founder
  • Business Owner

You should have:
  • 12+ years of operational leadership experience
  • Direct experience working with founders or business owners
  • Full responsibility for business operations
  • Experience supporting businesses between approximately $1M and $35M+ in annual revenue
  • Success building systems, KPIs, and accountability
  • Strong financial and operational business acumen
  • The ability to manage multiple client relationships simultaneously

Experience serving multiple organizations or operating as a Fractional COO is a plus but not required.
Success in This Role
You'll be measured by the operational outcomes your clients achieve, including:
  • Scalable systems that drive consistent execution
  • KPI dashboards actively used by leadership teams
  • Improved operational efficiency and profitability
  • Stronger accountability across the organization
  • Better delegation and leadership development
  • Businesses that operate successfully without relying on the owner every day
This Role Is NOT Right For You If
  • Your experience is limited to large enterprise organizations without working directly with founders or owners
  • You've never built systems inside an entrepreneurial business
  • You prefer maintaining established infrastructure rather than building it
  • You focus primarily on strategy without driving execution
  • You thrive in highly structured corporate environments with multiple layers of management
Compensation & Benefits
  • $110,000 Base Salary
  • Performance compensation with $182,000+ On-Target Earnings
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance (75% employer-paid)
  • Company-paid short- and long-term disability
  • 401(k) with up to 3.5% company match
  • Pet insurance
  • Legal insurance
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Company closed the entire week of Thanksgiving
  • One additional mandatory paid week off each year
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Access to HTM's executive development and business growth programs
  • 100% Remote
Why Join HTM?
Instead of optimizing one company, you'll help transform dozens of entrepreneurial businesses.
You'll combine the stability of a full-time W-2 position with the challenge and variety of serving as the operational leader for multiple growing companies-helping founders build organizations that execute consistently, scale effectively, and thrive without depending on the owner every day.
