Overview
Sentara Health is seeking a Clinical Systems Domain Architect to join our growing Clinical Systems Architect team. This role is responsible for providing strategic leadership, architectural guidance, and technical expertise across our Population Health portfolio.
This position serves as the bridge between operational leaders, clinical stakeholders, information technology teams, and vendors to ensure technology investments align with organizational goals, improve patient outcomes, and support long-term strategic initiatives.
The ideal candidate combines strong healthcare operational knowledge with technical expertise and a passion for innovation. This role is well-suited for someone looking to move beyond traditional application support and into strategic planning, enterprise architecture, and transformational healthcare initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Develop and maintain application and capability roadmaps aligned to organizational strategy.
Partner with operational and clinical leaders to identify opportunities for innovation and workflow improvement.
Lead technology discussions that support population health, care management, ambulatory operations, and value-based care initiatives.
Evaluate emerging technologies and provide recommendations to leadership.
Architecture & Governance
Serve as the primary architect for assigned domains and applications.
Participate in governance, architectural review, and strategic planning activities.
Ensure solutions align with enterprise standards, security requirements, and long-term technology strategy.
Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt, improve system integration, and optimize application portfolios.
Collaboration & Relationship Management
Build strong partnerships with operational leaders, clinicians, project teams, and vendors.
Facilitate workshops, strategic planning sessions, and business acceleration initiatives.
Translate operational needs into technology solutions and architectural recommendations.
Provide mentorship and guidance to analysts and project teams.
Solution Design & Delivery
Support major initiatives through planning, design, and implementation phases.
Assess impacts across workflows, applications, integrations, and reporting solutions.
Ensure solutions are scalable, sustainable, and aligned with enterprise architecture principles.
Assist with prioritization and strategic alignment of project portfolios.
Education
  • 8+ years of relevant experience with a degree (Required)

or
  • 10+ years of relevant experience without a degree (Required)

  • Experience in lieu of Bachelor's Degree

Certification/Licensure
  • Epic Ambulatory certification or Healthy Planet or Compass Rose (Required)
  • Epic Cogito (Preferred)
  • Nice to have TOGAF, PMP, Agile, or related professional certifications.

Experience
  • Experience with Population Health, Arcadia, Health Plan, Healthy Planet, Care Management, Community Connect, Case Management or value-based care programs (Required)
  • Minimum 5 years of healthcare information systems experience (Required)
  • Experience supporting Epic Ambulatory or related ambulatory healthcare applications (Required)
  • Strong understanding of population health workflows and healthcare operations (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional discussions and influence stakeholders (Required)
  • Experience developing strategic recommendations and presenting to leadership (Required).
  • Experience with enterprise architecture, application rationalization, or technology road mapping (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards and integration technologies (Preferred)

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay rate for Full Time employment is: 106,080.00 - 176,820.80. Additional compensation may be available for this role such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
