Remote Risk Management information

What is remote risk management?

A Remote Risk Management job involves identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential risks for a company while working remotely. Professionals in this role analyze financial, operational, cybersecurity, and compliance risks to develop strategies that protect the organization. They use risk models, data analysis, and industry best practices to ensure business continuity. Communication with stakeholders and implementing risk mitigation policies are also key aspects of the job. This role is common in industries such as finance, healthcare, and technology, where risk assessment is critical.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed for remote risk management?

To excel in Remote Risk Management, you need strong analytical abilities, knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, and typically a degree in finance, business, or a related field. Familiarity with risk management software (e.g., RSA Archer, SAS), compliance tracking tools, and certifications like CRM or FRM are highly valued. Excellent communication, critical thinking, and self-motivation are important soft skills for navigating remote team environments. These competencies ensure accurate risk identification and mitigation while fostering collaboration and efficiency in a virtual setting.

What are common challenges in remote risk management, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in remote risk management often encounter challenges such as maintaining clear communication with cross-functional teams, staying updated on evolving regulations, and ensuring data security while working off-site. To manage these challenges, it's important to leverage robust digital collaboration tools, attend regular training sessions, and establish clear reporting procedures. Proactive scheduling of virtual meetings and adopting reliable workflow software can also help keep projects on track. Cultivating strong self-discipline and staying organized are key to maintaining productivity in a remote environment.

Your work will support a recently relaunched Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) program, the implementation of a new control validation framework, and ongoing business continuity efforts. In this highly visible role, you'll help drive meaningful improvements across multiple enterprise risk programs while building strong partnerships across the organization. Remote or onsite, we are committed to ensuring you are fully engaged and included in our collaborative environment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Risk & Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs): Partner with business process owners to facilitate risk assessments, guide stakeholders through Archer, review completed RCSAs for quality and consistency, and help ensure risks and controls are properly identified, documented, and managed.
  • Control Validation & Testing: Perform internal control validation activities, including sample selection, documentation review, evidence gathering, and testing to evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of key controls.
  • Findings Management Oversight: Review control deficiencies and management action plans, provide constructive challenge where needed, monitor remediation efforts, and help ensure risks are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Business Continuity Support: Assist with business continuity planning, testing, and program administration activities in partnership with disaster recovery and business resiliency teams to help ensure organizational preparedness.
  • Risk Reporting & Analytics: Generate ad hoc and recurring reports, perform analysis that enhances risk transparency, support leadership reporting needs, and help improve visibility into key enterprise risks and trends.
  • Operational Risk Program Support: Assist with loss event data collection activities and support additional operational risk management initiatives as the program continues to mature and evolve.
  • Stakeholder Partnership & Risk Awareness: Build strong relationships across the organization to promote risk awareness, support business partners, encourage continuous improvement, and drive consistency in risk management practices.
  • Risk Technology Administration: Support the administration of risk management tools and applications, including helping business partners navigate Archer-based processes related to RCSAs, findings management, and other operational risk activities.
  • Special Projects & Program Enhancements: Contribute to enterprise risk initiatives, program enhancements, merger-related activities, and other projects that strengthen BECU's overall risk management framework.

This isn't just about ticking off tasks on a list. It's about making a significant, positive change in BECU's journey, where your contributions are valued, and your growth is continually fostered.

WHAT YOU'LL GAIN:

  • The opportunity to play a meaningful role in the evolution of BECU's Operational Risk Management program during a period of significant growth and transformation.
  • Hands-on experience supporting a recently relaunched enterprise-wide RCSA program and the implementation of a new control validation framework.
  • Exposure to multiple risk disciplines, including operational risk, internal controls, findings management, business continuity, and loss event management.
  • Visibility across the organization through collaboration with business leaders, process owners, and enterprise risk stakeholders.
  • The chance to build expertise with governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) technologies, including Archer and comparable risk management platforms.
  • A supportive, high-performing, and collaborative team environment where your ideas and contributions can make an immediate impact.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career growth into roles such as Senior Analyst and Enterprise Risk Manager.
  • The ability to help strengthen organizational resilience and protect the experiences of BECU members through proactive risk management.
