Remote Real Estate Development information

What is remote real estate development?

Remote real estate development refers to the process of overseeing and managing real estate projects, such as residential or commercial buildings, from a location outside of the physical job site. Professionals in this field use digital tools, virtual meetings, and project management software to coordinate with teams, stakeholders, and contractors. This approach allows developers to handle multiple properties in different locations efficiently and can reduce travel costs and time. Remote real estate development has become increasingly popular due to advancements in technology and the shift towards flexible work arrangements.

How does a remote real estate development role typically collaborate with on-site teams and stakeholders?

In a remote real estate development position, effective collaboration with on-site teams and stakeholders is achieved through regular virtual meetings, project management platforms, and clear communication channels. Remote developers often coordinate with architects, contractors, and local government officials to ensure that projects stay on schedule and meet regulatory requirements. Utilizing digital tools for documentation, progress tracking, and virtual site visits is common practice, allowing remote professionals to stay engaged and responsive to project needs. Establishing strong relationships and maintaining consistent updates are key to overcoming the challenges of physical distance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote real estate developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Real Estate Developer, you need expertise in market analysis, project management, and financial modeling, typically supported by a background in real estate, finance, or urban planning. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Excel, project management software (e.g., Asana, Trello), and real estate analysis platforms is essential. Strong communication, negotiation, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for coordinating with stakeholders and driving projects forward remotely. These competencies ensure effective project execution, informed decision-making, and successful collaboration despite physical distance.

Job description

Overview
Buckingham Companies is looking for a Strategic Finance & AI Analyst to help modernize how a $3B+ real estate platform forecasts cash, builds budgets, and understands its own performance - using AI as a core tool, not an afterthought. This is a rare seat: you'll report directly to our CEO and CFO, own enterprise-wide cash forecasting and the annual budget process, and be trusted to build the automated workflows and dashboards that leadership relies on to make decisions across 70+ properties.
If you love Excel, are genuinely excited about what AI tools like Claude can do for financial analysis, and want to build your own function inside a growing, vertically integrated real estate company - we want to talk to you.
Why This RoleThis position is intentionally dual-function: analyst and builder. You'll have direct visibility with the CEO and CFO from day one and a ground-floor opportunity to lead and build the finance function within Buckingham's Accounting & Finance group - shaping the processes, tools, and team that support it as you go.
It's a high-growth position with a defined path forward: as the function and your scope expand, so does your role, with a clear track to Manager of Finance and beyond.
Qualifications
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, or a related field; CPA, CMA, or CFA candidacy a plus
  • 0-5 years of experience in FP&A, corporate finance, treasury, or accounting - real estate or another asset-intensive industry is ideal
  • Advanced Excel skills: driver-based forecasts, variance analysis, pivot tables, scenario/sensitivity modeling, Power Query
  • Demonstrated fluency with AI assistants like Claude, with experience (or strong aptitude) for building AI-powered workflows and tools
  • Familiarity with Yardi and Power BI is a strong plus; SQL exposure is a bonus
  • A builder's mindset - you want to automate the reporting you'd otherwise do by hand, and you care about getting the accuracy and reliability layer right

Responsibilities
What You'll Do
  • Lead and help build the finance function within Buckingham's Accounting & Finance group - with a defined path to grow into Manager of Finance as the function and your scope expand
  • Own enterprise-wide cash flow forecasting - from near-term positioning through rolling 12-month projections - across operating companies and the full property portfolio
  • Design and build AI-driven workflows, using Claude connected to company data systems, that automate cash forecasting, budgeting, reporting, and reconciliation
  • Run the annual operating budget process end to end, and modernize the monthly financial roll-up and variance reporting
  • Maintain the company's 3-5 year platform-wide financial and valuation model, and drive scenario and sensitivity analysis that informs capital allocation, acquisitions, and financing
  • Build dashboards pulling from Yardi and our SQL data warehouse, including the CEO's portfolio and enterprise performance dashboard
  • Partner with Asset Management, Property Management, Accounting, and Development on forecasting, underwriting support, and ad hoc analysis for the CEO and CFO
