Job description

We are seeking an experienced Medical Writer/Editor to support high-visibility federal health communications initiatives. This role focuses on developing, editing, and maintaining evidence-based health content for public and professional audiences, translating complex scientific information into clear, accessible formats aligned with federal plain language and health literacy standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Research, write, edit, and update health-related content for web and print formats
  • Translate complex medical and scientific information into plain language
  • Develop and edit fact sheets and educational materials based on scientific evidence
  • Ensure alignment with federal plain language and accessibility guidelines
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders
  • Perform quality control reviews for accuracy and consistency
  • Support web content updates using content management systems (CMS)
  • Apply web-writing best practices including SEO and scannability
  • Support recurring content review cycles
  • Develop meeting summaries and synthesis documents as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Master's preferred)
  • At least 3 years of experience writing and editing medical or scientific content
  • Experience writing for public and/or professional audiences
  • Strong understanding of plain language and health literacy principles
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to synthesize complex scientific material
