Job description

Project Engineer - Professional Services Team

VXIT is a fast-paced, growing IT Managed Service Provider delivering technology services to small and medium businesses across many industries. We're looking for an experienced project engineer to join our Professional Services team — someone who can run complex infrastructure projects from end to end and bring real cloud depth to the table.

About the Role

This is a well-rounded project engineer role with meaningful cloud depth — not a cloud specialist, not a generalist. You should be equally comfortable replacing a server stack in a client's office as you are architecting a hybrid Azure environment. You'll lead projects, resolve hard escalations, and serve as a technical resource for the broader team on complex Microsoft Azure and infrastructure work.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in a L3 Support or IT Projects role.
  • You must have experience working for a Managed Service Provider.
  • Proven track record leading and completing infrastructure projects including server replacements, network stack design, physical office buildouts and moves, VoIP deployments, on-premises to cloud migrations, cloud-to-cloud migrations, email security implementations, and Active Directory to Entra ID migrations.
  • Strong hands-on Microsoft Azure experience including Azure VMs and storage, Azure networking, hybrid identity, Entra ID, and on-premises AD integration. Azure Virtual Desktop experience is a plus.
  • Ability to scope and estimate projects accurately given business objectives.
  • Strong customer service instincts — you can communicate clearly with a business owner, not just another engineer.
  • Excellent communication via email, phone and in person.
  • Ability to train and educate larger groups effectively, both internally and externally facing.
  • Ability to build rapport with clients in all situations.
  • Expert level troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.
  • Positive and professional demeanor.
  • Organization and the ability to manage a workload of several projects or escalations simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to be an escalation point for less experienced technicians

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute infrastructure and cloud projects across server hardware, networking, Microsoft 365, and Azure environments.
  • Architect and implement Azure environments when projects call for it.
  • Resolve technically challenging escalations across a wide range of technologies.
  • Participate in client discovery sessions and translate business needs into technical designs.
  • Scope and estimate projects in collaboration with the sales and solutions team.
  • Mentor and elevate other engineers on the team.
  • Develop and deliver training for clients where needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and uphold technical standards.
  • Track all time for billing and team metrics via ConnectWise.

Technical Experience

  • All modern Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, Workstation and Server versions.
  • Apple hardware, Macs, iPhones, and OSX.
  • Networking, TCP\IP and common troubleshooting commands.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and support networking hardware including firewalls, switches, routers, and wireless access points from various manufacturers.
  • Active Directory\Azure Active Directory
  • Anti-Virus, EDR, MDR, Security Solutions and Email Security
  • G Suite for Business
  • Microsoft 365/Office 365
  • VoIP Phone systems
  • DNS
  • Backup and Recovery
  • Intune
  • Remote Monitor and Management tools
  • Professional Services Automation (PSA) – ConnectWise Manage
  • Avanan, Barracuda, Proofpoint
  • Security Awareness Training tools

Non-Technical Qualifications

  • Communication – early and often
  • Hustle – today not tomorrow
  • Intention – In pace and purpose
  • Empathy – Caring starts with People
  • Fun\Sense of Humor – Enjoy the ride
  • Punctuality
  • Self-starter
  • Problem solving
  • Inter-personal skills, Team Player
  • Ethical
  • Good attitude
  • Confidence
