Job Description
AECOM is seeking an initiative-taking Professional Engineer with a Mechanical Engineering background to be based in the Denver, Colorado office to support mining projects in the planning and execution phases of projects and to help augment a team of Mechanical Professionals. The Project Mechanical Engineer will be working as an integral part of the team.
Job Summary/ Responsibilities:
  • Lead mechanical design and analysis for mining and heavy industrial projects, including piping systems, pumps, tanks, and process equipment.
  • Develop and review engineering calculations, including equipment sizing, pipe stress analysis, and system design in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Support early-stage project development through conceptual design, including PFDs, P&IDs, equipment selection, and facility layouts.
  • Prepare and review technical deliverables such as reports, specifications, and design packages to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical systems into overall project design.
  • Perform quality control reviews of calculations, drawings, and technical documents.
  • Support procurement activities, including vendor engagement, bid evaluations, and review of shop drawings.
  • Contribute to project planning by supporting cost estimates, schedules, and technical work planning.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff.
  • Support construction activities through design clarifications, RFI responses, and field coordination as needed.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Requirements
  • BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience and or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Certification
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • 8+ years or more of relevant industry experience
  • PE in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, or the ability to acquire a PE in any of these States within 6 months.
  • On-site field experience in commissioning and start-ups for pump stations.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in mechanical pipe stress modeling using industry standard software programs in conformance with codes and standards as well as project requirements.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in mechanical engineering systems for pump and piping design, modeling, and construction documentation.
  • Demonstrated progressive project experience including task leadership on design-bid-build projects.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in collaborating with CAD designers to produce construction-level drawings.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience as a technical resource to serve as technical reviewer and advisor for mechanical pumping and piping systems with strong written and oral communication and people management skills.
