Position Summary
The Project Developer leads the development of utility-scale renewable energy projects within the CAISO market, including solar, storage, and hybrid projects. This role owns project execution from early-stage development through late-stage readiness for Notice to Proceed (NTP), coordinating cross-functional teams and driving projects through key milestones.
The Developer serves as the central point of accountability ('quarterback') for project success, ensuring alignment across interconnection, permitting, land, engineering, and commercial workstreams while navigating the complexities of the CAISO market.
Key Responsibilities
Project Development Leadership
- Lead development of renewable energy projects across CAISO from site selection to execution readiness
- Drive advancement through key milestones including site control, interconnection queue progression, permitting approvals, and commercial structuring
Project Management & Execution
- Develop and manage integrated project schedules, budgets, and risk registers
- Track milestones and proactively adjust plans to maintain timelines
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate inputs across interconnection, land, permitting, engineering, environmental, and commercial teams
- Integrate SME inputs into cohesive development strategies
Risk Management & Decision-Making
- Identify and manage risks related to CAISO interconnection, permitting, land constraints, and market considerations
- Lead tradeoff discussions and recommend solutions to advance projects
Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead engagement with landowners, utilities, CAISO stakeholders, permitting agencies, and consultants
- Represent AES in project meetings and negotiations
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, environmental studies, or related field
- 4-7 years of experience in renewable energy development or related field
- Strong understanding of interconnection, permitting, land, and project development processes
Preferred:
- Experience with CAISO interconnection and California permitting processes
- Experience developing solar, storage, or hybrid projects in CAISO

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $105,000 and $131,325/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes annual bonus. The benefits offered for this position are: medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, 401(k) eligibility, and paid time off (including vacation, sick leave time, and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
