Job description

ABOUT AVANTUS
Avantus develops, owns, and operates utility-scale clean energy projects across California and the Desert Southwest. Our development pipeline represents one of the nation's largest portfolios of solar with integrated storage, capable of providing dispatchable power to 17 million Americans, day and night. With over a decade of industry leadership and strategic investment from KKR and EIG, Avantus delivers affordable, reliable clean energy solutions that meet America's growing energy demand.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Avantus is seeking an experienced Scheduling Manager to join its Project Controls team. This individual will serve as a subject matter expert in project scheduling, leading a small team of contract schedulers and owning schedule integrity across Avantus's portfolio of renewable energy projects. The Scheduling Manager will be primarily responsible for twelve late-stage projects while also providing scheduling guidance and oversight for dozens of early-stage projects. The role requires deep expertise in solar-plus-storage project delivery within multi-EPC environments, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to synthesize complex scheduling inputs into clear, actionable project schedules. This is a hybrid position based out of San Diego, CA, reporting to the Director of Project Controls.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Team & Portfolio Management
  • Manage and mentor a small team of contract schedulers, providing day-to-day direction and quality oversight.
  • Own schedule management across a portfolio of twelve late-stage projects and provide scheduling touchpoints for dozens of early-stage projects.
  • Ensure all project schedules are accurate, current, and properly maintained in Sitetracker; lead monthly date-roll processes for late-stage projects.

Schedule Development & Maintenance
  • Develop project schedules from standard templates at the initiation of the preconstruction phase, and manage and update schedules throughout preconstruction in close collaboration with the project lead.
  • Build and maintain master project schedules in both Primavera OPC (P6) and Microsoft Project, integrating inputs from multiple EPC schedules into a single cohesive view.
  • Identify logical interdependencies, interface points, and conflicts across EPC schedules; escalate and resolve conflicts proactively.
  • Review and validate EPC-submitted schedules for completeness, logic, and alignment with contractual milestones and project objectives.

Cash Flow & Cost Loading
  • Partner with the Senior Cost Manager to produce project cash flows through cost-loaded scheduling methodologies.
  • Apply best practices for cost loading and resource loading within P6 and Microsoft Project to support accurate cash flow forecasting.

Schedule Quality & Analytics
  • Apply industry-standard schedule quality metrics, including Schedule Quality Index (SQI) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI), to assess and communicate schedule health.
  • Implement and enforce scheduling best practices, including critical path analysis, logic sequencing, and float management.
  • Produce and maintain schedule-related reporting and analytics for internal stakeholders and leadership.

Systems & Process
  • Serve as a power user of Sitetracker
  • Maintain consistency and data integrity across scheduling tools, including Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Sitetracker.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of scheduling templates, processes, and standards across the Project Controls function.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in project scheduling, with at least 2 years in a lead or management capacity.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project, including cost loading, resource loading, and master schedule integration.
  • Hands-on experience in renewable energy project delivery, specifically utility-scale solar-plus-storage projects, in a multi-EPC environment.
  • Proven ability to develop and integrate master schedules from multiple EPC schedules; experience reviewing, analyzing, and validating EPC-submitted schedules.
  • Experience working either on the EPC side or for an IPP/developer responsible for schedule review, integration, and management.
  • Proficiency with Sitetracker or equivalent project management/controls platforms.
  • Strong understanding of scheduling best practices, including critical path method (CPM), Schedule Quality Index (SQI), Schedule Performance Index (SPI), float management, and logic analysis.
  • Experience producing or supporting cash flow development through cost-loaded schedule methodologies, in collaboration with cost management teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present scheduling status and risks clearly to project leads and senior leadership.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP) or AACE Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP) certification.
  • Experience supporting preconstruction schedule development from template through NTP and into construction.
  • Familiarity with project controls integration, including cost, schedule, and risk functions within a developer or IPP context.
