Job description

OVERVIEW

Sr. Capital Project Engineer II is a subject matter expert, providing technical leadership for processing-related capital projects and driving key technical and innovation efforts across all platforms. You will be responsible for the complete project lifecycle, including initial concept and scope definition, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and successful start-up.

In this role, you will own the development and delivery of project scope, budget, and timeline, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical requirements. As part of a multi-disciplinary CAPEX project team, you will lead and mentor both internal and external engineering resources within the project engineering discipline. You will also identify and implement best practices to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.

This role requires strong collaboration and partnership with plant teams, vendors, external engineering resources, and other stakeholders. You will spend a significant amount of time at plant sites, working directly with operations and maintenance personnel to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure successful project implementation.

The ideal candidate will be results-oriented, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget. This role offers broad exposure and deep dive engagement across businesses, technology platforms, and manufacturing sites, partnering across product and technology development, external technology expertise, and plant operations and maintenance.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead all phases of capital projects, from concept to completion, ensuring alignment with business objectives, technical requirements, and providing technical leadership to project teams and plant personnel.
  • Define project scope, develop detailed cost estimations, and manage capital budgets within the process discipline.
  • Create and maintain project schedules, proactively identifying and mitigating potential delays.
  • Manage and coordinate the activities of internal and external engineering resources
  • Develop system designs, manage equipment sizing and selection, and oversee procurement, installation, and check-out processes.
  • Ensure field installations and construction meet design expectations, leading decisions and authorizations for field changes.
  • Partner with key stakeholders, including plant teams, R&D, quality, manufacturing, and operations leadership.
  • Utilize continuous improvement tools and methodologies to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Create and review process designs, including PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and control system strategies.
  • Identify and resolve process-related issues to improve efficiency, reliability, and product quality.
  • Maintain General Mills specifications and standards of construction, partnering with internal engineering standards owners.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies and processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance sustainability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related degree with applicable experience or extensive relevant work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, with a focus on capital projects.
  • Deep technical knowledge of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, process control systems, and food safety regulations.
  • Strong understanding of food safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability to effectively collaborate, negotiate, and make decisions with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, adaptability, analytical and problem-solving skills, decision-making, troubleshooting, communications, team management, and human relations skills
  • Willingness to travel around 50% of the time

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough understanding of Food Manufacturing Regulatory Requirements (GMP’s, Food Safety, etc.).
  • Experience working with EPA and OSHA regulations.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing capital projects exceeding $5 million.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and process simulation software.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $108900.00 - $163500.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
