What is a remote positive behavior support specialist?

A Remote Positive Behavior Support (PBS) specialist is a professional who works with individuals, families, or organizations to help improve challenging behaviors using evidence-based strategies, all through virtual or online platforms. They assess behavior, develop behavior intervention plans, and provide coaching and support remotely. These specialists often work with children or adults with developmental disabilities, autism, or behavioral challenges, collaborating with caregivers or staff to create positive environments. Their goal is to promote positive behaviors and improve quality of life, using proactive and person-centered approaches.

How does a remote positive behavior support specialist typically collaborate with families and interdisciplinary teams?

Remote Positive Behavior Support professionals often work closely with families, educators, and other specialists through virtual meetings, emails, and digital progress reports. They provide guidance on implementing behavior intervention plans at home or in educational settings, ensuring consistent strategies across environments. Effective communication and regular check-ins are essential to monitor progress, address challenges, and adjust interventions as needed. This collaborative approach helps ensure that all stakeholders are aligned and working towards the individual's behavioral goals.

To thrive as a Remote Positive Behavior Support Specialist, you need a solid background in psychology, behavior analysis, or special education, often supported by a relevant degree and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or similar certification. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, data collection software, and digital communication tools is crucial for delivering services remotely. • Collaborate consistently with the Child Family Treatment Team and other professional stakeholders, contributing valuable insights into the treatment planning process.
  • Timely documentation of all necessary evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and any changes in client status in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, sharing ideas and strategies that contribute to improved client care and treatment methodologies.
Patient Population / Client Focus

You will be primarily working with a diverse population of young clients, particularly children and adolescents aged 3-20 who are experiencing developmental and intellectual challenges. This role offers the unique opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of children with special needs by addressing their behavioral health needs and supporting their families.

Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a closely related field is required.
  • Possession of a valid and unrestricted Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) license is essential.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and availability for at least 5-10 hours per week during after-school hours (4-7 PM) is highly beneficial.
  • A valid driverโ€™s license and access to a registered vehicle are necessary to facilitate potential home visits.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in applying positive behavior support techniques in therapeutic settings.
  • Previous work with children diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is a strong asset to effectively communicate with a broader range of families.
  • A comprehensive criminal background check, including fingerprinting, will be conducted prior to hiring.
Compensation and Benefits

The position offers a competitive salary range of USD 90,000 to 105,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Beyond the base salary, employees are entitled to an attractive benefits package that includes:

  • A dynamic and engaging work environment that promotes professional growth and development.
  • Annual paid time off to recharge and enjoy personal pursuits.
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance for peace of mind.
  • A company-sponsored retirement plan (401(k)) to help secure your financial future.
  • A sign-on bonus, providing an additional incentive for joining our team.
