Remote Positive Behavior Support information

What is a remote positive behavior support specialist?

A Remote Positive Behavior Support (PBS) specialist is a professional who works with individuals, families, or organizations to help improve challenging behaviors using evidence-based strategies, all through virtual or online platforms. They assess behavior, develop behavior intervention plans, and provide coaching and support remotely. These specialists often work with children or adults with developmental disabilities, autism, or behavioral challenges, collaborating with caregivers or staff to create positive environments. Their goal is to promote positive behaviors and improve quality of life, using proactive and person-centered approaches.

How does a remote positive behavior support specialist typically collaborate with families and interdisciplinary teams?

Remote Positive Behavior Support professionals often work closely with families, educators, and other specialists through virtual meetings, emails, and digital progress reports. They provide guidance on implementing behavior intervention plans at home or in educational settings, ensuring consistent strategies across environments. Effective communication and regular check-ins are essential to monitor progress, address challenges, and adjust interventions as needed. This collaborative approach helps ensure that all stakeholders are aligned and working towards the individual's behavioral goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote positive behavior support specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Positive Behavior Support Specialist, you need a solid background in psychology, behavior analysis, or special education, often supported by a relevant degree and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or similar certification. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, data collection software, and digital communication tools is crucial for delivering services remotely. Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with clients and families are essential soft skills. These competencies enable effective intervention, accurate progress monitoring, and meaningful collaboration with clients and support teams in a virtual environment.

Position Overview

Practical Solutions Counseling is actively seeking a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) to join our dynamic team in Arvada, Colorado. This full-time position offers the flexibility of a remote setting, enabling you to impact the lives of children and families throughout the state. We are especially interested in candidates who are bilingual in Spanish or Portuguese, as you will be providing in-community therapeutic services to children with developmental disabilities and intellectual challenges.

About the Organization

At Practical Solutions Counseling, we are dedicated to delivering comprehensive youth and family support services. Our mission is to assist primary caregivers of children and adolescents with developmental and intellectual disabilities. We pride ourselves on creating solutions that empower families, enhance behavioral skills, and promote overall well-being. Join our team and be a part of an organization that values collaboration, respect, and positive impact.

Work Environment

You will work primarily in an outpatient office setting but have the flexibility to provide therapy sessions remotely. Our work environment emphasizes a collaborative approach, where therapists work alongside a multi-disciplinary Child Family Treatment Team, including social workers, psychologists, and educational professionals. This teamwork is essential to effectively support the diverse needs of our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct individual therapy sessions in-home and group therapy at our outpatient center, using evidence-based techniques tailored to each child's needs.
  • Develop and implement therapeutic strategies for anger management, social skills enhancement, and coping mechanisms to mitigate high-risk behaviors.
  • Guide youth and caregivers in decision-making processes to address and manage behavioral challenges occurring in the home environment.
  • Engage in ongoing collaboration with the Child Family Treatment Team to ensure a cohesive plan of care and to discuss progress at monthly meetings.
  • Complete necessary documentation, such as assessment intakes, treatment plans, and progress notes, in a timely manner to meet organizational compliance standards.
Patient Population / Client Focus

Your primary focus will be working with children and adolescents aged 3-20 who are diagnosed with developmental disabilities and intellectual challenges. This population requires compassionate, customized therapeutic approaches, as their needs often span emotional, educational, and social domains. As a therapist with Practical Solutions Counseling, you will have the opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of these children, helping them develop the skills necessary to thrive.

Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Counseling, Family Therapy, Social Work, or a related field is required.
  • An active and unrestricted LMFT license is mandatory.
  • Availability for a minimum of 5-10 hours of service weekly, particularly during after-school hours (4-7 pm), with some weekend availability preferred.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in providing positive behavior support techniques is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience working with children and youths with intellectual and developmental disabilities is a significant plus.
  • A valid driver's license and a registered vehicle are required for travel to client locations.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, including fingerprinting.
Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary for this position ranges from $60,000 to $80,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to competitive pay, we offer a robust benefits package that includes:

  • A dynamic work environment fostering professional growth.
  • Ongoing job training to enhance your therapeutic skills.
  • Comprehensive group health coverage.
  • Annual paid time off for work-life balance.
  • Short/long-term disability insurance options.
  • 401K retirement plan to support your future.
Career Growth Opportunities

At Practical Solutions Counseling, we believe in investing in our staffโ€™s professional development. As a therapist, you will have access to continuous training, workshops, and opportunities for advancement within the organization. Your contributions will not only impact the families we serve but can also set the stage for your personal career growth within our supportive environment.
